WW,
Thanks for the lead to the thread. Very helpful in proving that the latest version is not necessarily an improvement, and in the case of ExcelXP, it may even be retrograde. I will switch to Office 2000.
Thanks again,
Joven
Occasionally when I am selecting a range with mouse-right-click-hold/shift/arrows, Excel freezes the keyboard and mouse. Not even Ctrl-Alt-Del works and I had to manually switch off the computer. The freeze does not occur exactly when I am selecting but I don't at what point because I was doing...
I have a Micron Millennia laptop and the manual had departed long ago.
The computer has both a touch pad and a pointing stick. How do I switch between the two? For some work like icon building, I would prefer the finer motion of the stick.
Thanks in advance for any clue.
I have done what you are trying to do. I used PowerQuest's PartitionMagic(PM) to clear my second hard drive (D:) of any partition - totally "unallocated" in PM's parlance. Then I copied via PM the entire WinXP partition in C: onto D:. PM will do the required formatting as it copies.
I...
I have a WinXP Pro system with lots of programs in place, many obtained from hours of online update. I want to install a dual boot with Win98, but after I install Win98 I have to reinstall WinXP, according to Microsoft knowledge base.
I hate to have to reinstall all my programs under WinXP...
cdogg,
How does one back up the registry?
And how does one restore from the backup?
If the registry gets fouled up, will the computer be operative enough to enable registry restoration?
deecee - where did you get those great anemoticons?
gavskii - get a Mac :). It looks like mixing XP and AMD is like getting a clunker car so you can learn a lot in fixing it.
This thread had gotten me v.interested, as I was considering building a system around Athlon and XP. I am putting it on...
How do I prepare an emergency floppy boot disk that has the CDROM enabled? I am thinking of the eventuality of a total hard drive crash and need to put a new one in. Also for a milder situation of merely when there's no boot from the C: drive that is otherwise not dead yet.
linney,
I did what you suggested (Win95/9x/ME compatibility, doesn't run in W2K like I thought it did). The program started to run but stopped with message "can't find damonit.vxd file" though that file was right there. A second message window said "Cannot write DiskAction...
Bobg1, Stealer,
Your suggestions are duly noted and appreciated. I shall heed them in addition to what I am really seeking.
As I noted in my initial post, there's a program that can show disk activity on-screen from PCMag, but worked only with Win2000 or earlier, not on WinXP.
In view of the...
Bobg1 and Linney,
My real intent in wanting to know which drive is getting spun up is to preserve my boot drive from wear and tear. I would like to know for example, that if I am playing mp3s all day it also meant my boot drive is spinning all the time. Would it make a difference then whether my...
I am running WinXP on a system with 3 hard disks. I have set it to power down the HDs after a few minutes of inactivity. But from time to time I hear a whirring sound like the one of the HDs was powering up.
Is there a program out there that will show on screen the run status of the HDs? I...
