Yeah luckily enough although multi location (2), it is a single domain and everything is hosted here.
The remote site (only 5 people) use an IPSEC tunnel to get to the main servers.
The company as a whole isn't large enough to justify the remote office having its own set of data files etc.
Its...
Duh, what am I thinking about.
With a NAS I can do drive maps direct to the NAS eliminating the need for 'server' based drive maps.
OK the NAS is a single point of failure, but will be brand spanking new, and at least will have dual PSU and NIC's.
Thanks I thought as much :(
Just trying to come up with a way of automatically dealing with drive mappings (2008 GPO) should the referenced path become unavailable due to a server failure.
Cheers
Everything I've read about DFS mentions two distinct set of files, with DFS providing (through domain roots on multiple servers) a failover capacity.
Can I do the following -
Two servers, one 2008 the other 2003.
NAS with folders/files.
Create -
Domain root with 'namespace node/root' folders...
Using Backup Exec 12.5 all latest patches etc and an LTO2 directly attached to the Media Server.
Running Windows 2008 x64 (not R2) on a 2008 SQL Express database.
Looking at getting a NAS, probably either Netgear or QNAP.
QNAP doesn't have the RALUS agent for x64, but Netgear does.
So
a) Use...
Recently took over from previous sys admin.
Replication is failing between two DC's.
Looking into it -
a) The cross ref object for the AD configuration partition in CN=Partitions begins with CNF,
The srv record for the affected DC/domain has the correct GUID in it.
b) Can't add correct...
Thanks but that isn't the problem.
When I go to upgrade the servers it will not allow me to deselect the clients (SQL) that I don't want upgrading.
The only way I have 'round' it for the moment is to remove the SQL 11.5 clients I don't want upgrading, then install the other 12.1 clients, then...
Currently running 11.5.
I do not want to upgrade certain clients on the backed up servers but I am unable to deselect these during the upgrade process. I can add additional clients but the currently installed clients cannot be deselected, the green box has a red border around it.
Basically I...
Using r12.5 SP4 on Windows 2003 SP2.
a) Do I need BAOF installed on servers that run Windows 2003? I am under the impression you can use VSS to back up in use files.
b) Disaster Recovery Option - Does this cover all servers or just the main one?
Thanks.
Thanks
I know it works outside of Arcserve so guess I'll just give it a go see what happens.
Going to use two variables that will set two values in the batchfile -
c:\asscripts\jobcomp.bat monday,2 (as in day and week number).
Think the only thing I might have to do is enclose it all in...
Ooops should add -
entry in the post option currently -
c:\asscripts\jobcomp.bat
want to use -
c:\asscripts\jobcomp.bat monday
Then in the batch file going to use -
set backday=%1 (ie the variable passed with the command)
Just unsure if arcserve will allow
c:\asscripts\jobcomp.bat monday
OK.
I have a batch file that runs on completion of the job and sends an email out to me and the boss.
Is it possible to include a variable in the command line that I can pass to the file, or will Arcserve dump it.
i.e.
Currently - jobcomp.bat
Would like - jobcomp.bat monday (etc)
That way I...
Here's the setup-
Domain is behind a firewall.
VPN clients connect to our ISP's concentrator.
Rules to forward / allow traffic in both our firewall and the ISP concentrator.
What happens -
VPN connects and auths to the concentrator without a problem.
You can ping and tracert servers on our...

RE:
1) Was on about the Device Config setup where you have the option of Tape library or Enable/Disable RSM.
2)http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=749221
Seem to be using a MSDE database, unlikely ours will reach 2Gb in size, just fed up of VLDB.
1) When setting up a tape loader do I use the tape library or RSM option in the device setup (seen both suggested)?
2) Can I use an MSDE databse in place ot the VLDB?
Thanks
One mistake I noticed right away -
Both 2000 and XP report %os% as Windows_NT , not Windows_2000 or Windows_XP .
Easy check, open a command line and enter - echo %os%
Way I would do it -
set servername= <whatever you want>
@echo off
if "%os%"=="Windows_NT" goto end
net time /DOMAIN:<name>...
Took over a network.
The previous guy had setup automatic software installations using GPOs.
Unfortuneately the server that all the software had resided on has gone.
Can I directly edit the .aas files which specify the softwares location and put in the new server, or do I have to recreate the...
Thanks.
If I understand correctly - You can't rely on the Mb shown processed by Arcserve as you dont know how well it is being compressed. So it's entirely possible for it to show say 250Gb processed and still be copying to a 80/160 tape as that 250Gb may have compressed to a lot less?
Thanks
