    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error

robdot, I can tell you how I solved the problem in the end. It turned out that the PC was indeed overheating, as I've read in some other threads. A new cooler solved the problem, and it never happened since then (almost a year).

WinXP system volume separate from boot volume

Yes I did remove the first partition and then created it again. This doesn't happen if I delete both partitions and then create both again from setup. But if I leave the second partition as it was, WinXP decides that it wants that to be its System partition. I doubt there was any way of the...

    computer shuts down unexplainably

Had a similar problem (same symptoms except the display). I read a lot about the CPU overheating, but it was also always below the threshold. It turned out the cooling fan wasn't very good, and sometimes it would stop touching the CPU for just a split second in just one corner, but that's enough...

    XP keeps restarting itself continually

Have you done anything to your hardware recently? New CPU? I had a problem which had the same symptoms. Checked lots of stuff, in the end it turned out that the cooling fan wasn't perfectly aligned to CPU, which would cause a blue screen or an automatic restart depending on settings.

    screen saver

I've been writing screensavers, and I was surprised to know that the screensaver has to handle password input *itself*. So if the screensaver doesn't do it, there won't be a prompt for password. On the other hand, if this happens to all screensavers (esp. the M$ screensavers) then the problem...

WinXP system volume separate from boot volume

Hi! My 20Gb HDD has two partitions, of which one has the OS and the other has some data. The primary partition is mounted as C: and the secondary is mounted into an NTFS folder on an 80Gb HDD. All partitions are NTFS. After reinstalling WinXP into the primary partition (which was duly...

Can't remove strange bad site "app"

It is certainly polish because a friend of mine who's polish says it is. If the designers of the program were clever enough, they could have made it a virtual driver, in which case it is not trivial to find it or shut it down. Maybe a spy killer could do the job because many spy programs are...

    Constant rebooting

Maybe you shouldn't worry too much jvcalara - it looks like a lot of people here, but imagine the number of people around the world using Athlon with XP - the chances you will get the same problem are negligible imho.

    Constant rebooting

I couldn't solve my problem with rebooting so I just switched to my good old P2 300MHz. *Everything* is different except WindowsXP, all the hardware. And yet today it gave me the IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSoD! I give up...

    Video Display

One thing you definitely need is a correct codec. A codec is a kind of program that decodes the compressed file into a series of pictures. If you get DivX, you will be able to play most movie formats. Link: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html

    Constant rebooting

I've seen a couple of rebooting problems fixed by changing the system fan. Well, it may help you, but probably not the other people. I would be glad to try this on my machine but I already have a huge Maxtron double fan, and I can't imagine anything bigger except for a liquid nitrogen cooler:-)...

    Missing HD space?!?!

Maybe you have a few lost chains on it? Check it with chkdsk (go to My Computer, right click the drive, select properties, go to Tools, click on Check Now).

    Constant rebooting

What we are forgetting here is that this problem may be caused by different things. Or, to be more accurate, these symptoms may appear due to different problems. In some cases it's the drivers, in some cases - hardware. My case: this is definitely faulty motherboard. It's not XP because I tried...

    Constant rebooting

OK, some generalisation of the problem: It mainly happens on AMD & NVIDIA & DDR & XP setups, but there are exceptions. (ockerb, see Aug 6 - that's a PIII) A lot of it is incompatible hardware. I have read microsoft info on all these errors, here are short summaries...

    Constant rebooting

As i said in another thread, i get the reboots and the errors. I've got DDR and XP and NVIDIA. But this all started after my PC got crushed during transportation. I tend to think it's a physical damage, and it's probably either RAM or mobo. By the way, the BSOD gives the .sys file that's causing...

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error

I get IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and PAGE_FAULT_IN_A_NON_PAGED_AREA, it seems that it's more likely to happen when I'm using Photoshop or games (i believe that's because they're using ram extensively). The thing is that I haven't installed any hardware for at least half a year, and any software...
