The system has been purchased, installed, data migrated to it, and an mirror DR site brought up on the other side of town. Now the EMC tech tells me failover is not automatic. So, a meteor turns the datacenter into a crater, but since I'm shooting down a zipline in Belize at the time, the DR...
We have a tech running a set of Website-related processes on a virtual Windows 2003 server using VMWare Server 1.x (the free one). Now we have Windows 2008 Server with Hyper-V and are happily running one virtual machine with it. I'd like to migrate the VMWare virtual machine to Hyper-V too...
...but the tapes are only 160GB each. Can anyone 'splain that?

Running VSS on Windows 2003 R2 SP2... shadow copy worked fine for months, had 50 days worth of daily shadow copies and used them all the time for file restores. Then this past monday morning I came to work to this:
"Source: Volsnap
EventID: 25
(etc)
The shadow copies of volume R were deleted...
AD seems to replicate between servers (2003, on the same LAN) just fine, but sometimes the logon script .bats in the DC system root don't. Other times they do. Any tips?

A little digging turned up the original CDs that shipped with the server, which included a bootable CD with a utility to reinstall the OS or install a different OS. Thanks.

I bought 5 new servers preinstalled with 2003 SR2 but the state IT authority hasn't extended the AD schema to SR2 so I can't use them as DCs. I'd be delighted to install SR1 but the computers won't allow an earlier version to install from within Windows and won't boot the CD either. So now...
Migrating from NT domain to AD 2003 domain. ADMT didn't convert local profiles on computers so I have to manually move the contents from the old profile to the new one after the user logs on to the new domain for the first time. Anyone experience anything like this? All clients are NT, 2K or...
I brought up 2003 AD servers and created a new domain. Ran ADMT to migrate computer and user accounts to AD, no problem. Now, for the last 9 months I've been manually converting the clients because ADMT did not work. All clients are NT, 2K or XP. Here's how I do it: The User logs on to new...
When migrating Computer, I get this:
"User rights translation will be performed in Add mode only..."

Mark,
I don't suppose you still have that script handy?

Has anyone used ADMT to migrate an NT domain (non-FQDN) to a new AD domain (FQDN) on 2003 server? Did you migrate computers and users? Did it work?

Mark, thanks for the reply. I don't think this is the issue because I am logged into the AD server as administrator of the Source (old) domain. The ADMT does migrate the computer into the new domain and reports no errors, but just doesn't add the new access rights to the existing profiles...
Migrating from NT domain to AD. Using ADMT to migrate computers. First off, someone tell me the difference between "People" and "Users" in AD. I migrated all accounts from NT domain and put them in "People" on the AD. Are they supposed to be in "Users"?
Next: Run ADMT to migrate computers...
Seamus, did you resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem with a 2003 RIS server. This is my first attempt at using RIS, so I'm stumbling around in the dark.
Thanks!

bcastner - yep, the w2K machine is connected to the same hub in my office that the XP machine is. I use it for testing, etc. It dual boots with NT workstation. Thats how I tested the connection to the new exchange server with those 2 OSs. I went to a colleague's XP machine, which I had never...
bcastner - thanks for the tips, I'm following up on them now. I should mention that we use WINS. DNS is configured but not fully implemented so WINS is the chief resolver. I'm starting to suspect this is at the root of the issue, though, since the problems doesn't extend to earlier OSs...
Fascinating, but no solution because NT workstation and 2KPro connect to the new exchange server without incident. Thanks though.

XP Pro OS, Outlook 2002, local (XP) firewall is NOT enabled. The IS shop installed a new Exchange server and copied my account to it, old one is still online. When I try to switch to the new server in Outlook config, it says it can't find it. Does this on any XP machine - deleting my profile...
Thanks bcastner, that did it.
