You can add drives to the aray (call dell techsupport for help), the problem here is to expand the C: partition, you will either need to backup all your data, and repartion, re install the OS then restore the system, or try somthing like partition magic (server edition).
But techgnome is right...
Go to www.support.dell.com enter your service tag (should be a 5-7 alphanumeric on a black and white sticker on the back of the server. go to downloads, select the appropriate catagories. Durring the NT install hit F6 after the boot process.
Load the PERCII driver first then the onboard SCSI...
PERC stands for Power Edge EXPANDABLE raid controler. You can add a disk to an array (for example to change a raid 1 to a raid 5) without a problem, the problem comes in with expanding the current partitions. Since it is best to use simple disks with a raid, you dont want to create another...
Sounds like this is setup as a raid alrady, in hardware raid, windows sees the array as one big disk, and it should be formatted as a simple disk. You only need active disks for software raid.
There are 2 perc 2 controlers one is an AMI mega raid, the other is an Adaptec. You can use the MFG drivers. The way to tell the difference is the AMI uses control m at boot to configure and the adaptec uses control a.
You have to hit the F6 key after the initial blue screen (goes black, blue, black) to stop the SCSI autodetect. Load the RAID driver, then the embedded SCSI driver. What is happening is that the kernel is seeing the embedded card as the boot card, (SCSI controler 0) and then when the boot.ini...
Ok, I have been looking all day, I cannot find a reason that you CANNOT run SQL on the same raid array as the quorum disk. I understand that it is not optimal, and will slow down the DB, but it can be done. Correct?
Yes, you can do it through the bios or through DOMDA (Dell open manage disk adminstrator) create a new partition or use partition magic or equiv to extend a current partition.... BTW you should always use simple partitions with a RAID controler.
