I find it annoying. I don't remember it in Excel 2000. Maybe I just have to add it to my list of annoyances in Win 7 and Office 2010. Somehow I find that I have to move my mouse more and click it more times these days. Is this supposed to be progress?
Hello
I started using Office 2010 on my new Win 7 PC recently.
I have a very simple question. When I call Help in Excel, the Help window always appears and stays on top. Of course it covers a good part of the page I'm working on, and the only way to get rid of it is by closing or minimizing...
strat55 - when I had this problem, I Googled and found this link:
http://www.beezmo.com/IntelD945GCZDir/D945WindowsDir/D945WindowsXP.htm
I did not try this - didn't think that changing the CD/DVD drive icons in explorer were worth the effort, but you can if you want to. Let me know how it comes...
Well, I finally uninstalled Intel Desktop Utilities, and rebooted, and that annoying restriction warning was gone! My USB drives worked, including my external hard disk that I use for backup, which was very important to me.
However, my CD and DVD drives still won't work, but that may be a...
Well, I tried System Restore, back to August 17, when I didn't have the problem, but that didn't help.
The registry value returned when I did the system restore. Is there any point in changing its value? I haven't tried that yet.
Any other suggestions? I've thought of uninstalling Intel...
smah, thanks, but it didn't work. I deleted the allocatedasd REG_SZ entirely, as you suggested, and rebooted. I still got the same restriction warning, and still can't get to my CD/DVD and USB drives. The deleted registry string is not in the registry (I checked).
What now? Should I...
smah, I'm not used to workng with the registry, but I found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/SeCEdit/RegValues/Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/WinLogon/AllocateDASD, in the right hand pane of REGEDIT there is a value type with a data...
BadBigBen, thanks again. However, I don't want my USB drives to function as read-only devices, since this would negate one of their main purposes, which is to act as backup (my external hard disk). Any other suggestions?
BadBigBen, thanks. Looking at the MS support link, using the Group Policy Editors looks pretty cumbersome. But I see that MS states that it applies to XP professional, not to XP home, which, as I posted, is what I have. I do not have "Group Policy" under "Available Stand Alone Snap-ins" when...
I have a Win XP Home SP3 system. Starting yesterday (I've had the PC for over 4 years) every time I turn the PC on, I get a warning "Administrator has prohibited access to CD/DVD ROM drives." Also, if I try an external USB drive, I get the same sort of warning about the USB drives. I'm the...
SimonDavies, thanks. I also thought about the power supply. But looking at the hardware monitor in the diagnostics package that Intel provides shows that all power supply voltages are within or better than 4% of their nominal values (well within limits).
I have a WIN XP SP3 with a 2.6 GHz Pentium 4, with Intel BIOS and motherboard. The system is about five and a half years old, and it works pretty well. (It's a generic make.)
But lately, I've had a problem turning it on. It used to be that I just had to press the ON button, and the thing...
OK, this problem was finally cleared up today. After I had to go on a trip for a couple of weeks (and after I found that my wife's laptop worked just fine in a local cafe with a wi-fi hotspot, and after I switched ISP's), I asked the cable company to send a technician with a new cable modem...
cmeagan656, I should have mentioned in my previous post that right above that small message on the Inbox, it says "Chat is disabled", and Gmail view says just "standard | basic HTML" (I haven't closed IE since I got Gmail a couple of hours ago.)
Linney, I was thinking of trying that, but we won't be able to get around to it for a couple of days.
In the meantime, I have been able to get Gmail a couple more times on IE. But if I shut down IE and try again, it won't come up. Then a few hours later, it will. Then I noticed that off in...
cmeagan656, thanks for your input. I think I already tried that once, but since there's no harm in trying again, I did it. No luck! Just to be on the safe side, I turned off IE and FF, turned them on, and tried again. Gmail still doesn't work.
smah, linney, thanks for your suggestions, but as you say things are very strange.
I have not found any other sites that are not working in the last few days.
Today I got Gmail on IE, but not on FF. On my wife's laptop, I couldn't get Gmail on IE or FF
Pinging www.gmail.com elicits a...
