Hi all,
You do not need a backup agent for open files to backup the
sql server online..
You just need a sql agent to back it up..

I ran into same problems and atlast i bought...
hi fitfixer,
You can also download sp3 for arcserve2000 and install the sql agent from that...
I believe CA has given a full version of the agent with that
servicepack..
Thanks,

Hi,
I had the same problem before...
Just use a filter and exclude from the backup..
Or
go to regedt32..
hkeylocalmachine\software\arcserveit\base\task\common
IgnoreShareViolationsOn
Make sure that you have PERFLIB added there
Thanks,
baba

6050 is sufficient for the NT agent....
41523\41524 is needed for the ARcserve discovery service to work properly...
If its a netBIOS enabled network, open port 445
cheers

Always, its a good parctice to use "sa" account for backups and restores..
For security reasons, if you u do not want to use "sa" then
create a sql login and give him full rights, so that login can be used for backups and restores...

when you right click on the database session in the restore window, you should get the "backup agent option"..
Clicking that menu will open up the "backup agent restore
options".. this is where u see the "force restore over existing database..
Also in the destination...
You cannot have arcserve installation and database on different partitions.....
If you want to have the database on a different larger partition , pl. uninstall arcseve and reinstall it on a larger patition..
Before uninstalling arcserve, save the backup jobs as asx files and copy the database...
Try to start the backup agent rpc server service with the account that is used for starting the sql services..
since you are overwriting the database, choose " force restore over existing database" in the restore options and then try the restore again.
If the above solution fails...
Hi,
Install arcserve on the data server and the exchange agent on the exchange server.
Backup exchange thru the network.
Data server can be backedup locally..if the files not open..
