Solved... turns out the backup drive went bad. it acted like it was backing up but would fail on verify. the reason it failed was b/c there was actually no readable data on the tape. i found this out by cataloguing the tapes and finding 0 bytes on them. backup to disk works fine. CrazyI- CrazyIvan1
