Have you tried to use a client computer that connect to this server with NIC connection without problem ?! then, disconnect this computer by pull out the LAN cable and use a modem to connect to this server again especialy use the same user name but the same problem you got now ?!
I don't know whether HP4100n is an new model or an old one, if it is an old one, then usually the driver is not 100% support to win2k up even you can download the latest driver from HP's web, if it is the case try to buy a new printer.
It seems you have modem driver's problem, try use this machine as a client to connect to your old NT4SP6a or connect it to an ISP to see if it works properly or not ?!
If this is the point then delete the modem and reinstall the modem driver or change another modem for some modem it can dial...
I have tried 1. Second Copy 2. Backup to CD-RW and 3. Data Replicator three backup software but, none of them support file's or folder's name other than English like I tried file's name in Japanese, Chinese and Thai and these 3 software are all read them as error file name and will not backup...

If not, take out the HDD and connect it to another computer as slave HDD and that computer should running OS Win2K or WinXP with NTFS then scan this HDD for virus after that use Win Tool of Error-checking to correct the corrupt to those files structure then...

I use my Win xp dial-up to my RRAS in Windows 2000 server w/o problem, I can ping my server or other computer in my LAN or I can search other Computer's Name in my LAN either, I can access my server also, but while I want to access any other of the computers it just can not.
