    Resolving Host Problem

In searching for solutions to the Resolving Hosts" problem, one solution was to change to a public DNS. I followed the steps until it said to open a window labeled Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties but with no instructions on how to do that. My search of the internet is no help. Can anyone...

How to change a Library to a folder.

I am trying to back up my hard disk to an external hard disk using SyncBackFree program. When choosing what to back up, it makes me choose a folder. All of my files are in subfolders of folders that are part of Libraries which are not acceptable. Is it possible to change a library to a folder or...

    Unwanted popups

Suddenly, today I started receiving a popup ad for justcloud.com. I can delete it with the X in the upper right corner but it reappers when the next email is opened. I tried to put it on a blocked list but that doesn't stop it. Any solutions?

    Printer Online problem

Thanks all for the quick response. It was simpler than I thought. The 4-way printer cable switch is faulty. The indicator light works but there was no connection to the printer.

Quick Launch taskbar has doubled in size.

The taskbar on the desktop recently doubled in size. Attempting to resize causes the cursor to form the adjusting arrow, but has no effect on resizing. I unchecked Show Quicklaunch and this allowed me to resize the taskbar to it's normal size but when I again check Show Quicklaunch, the taskbar...

When I plug an SD card into my E drive, I am able to view the files that on it and load them into my Picassa program. When I'm through I can safely remove the card. Request for non-existant pass word.

When I try to sign onto my XP (Home not PRO) I receive a LOG ON MESSAGE saying The system could not log on. I click on OK, the message window disappears and the grayed LOG ON TO WINDOWS box becomes active. It displays my user name and a blank line to enter my password. I don't enter anything but...

Starting WORD has 2 annoying extra screens.

Thanks all but I resolved the problem by un- and re- installing Office 2002 which I should have done first. I forgot I had the 2002 CD and thought I'd have to install Office 2007 which my wife loves but I hate. It takes the simple tasks from 2002 and adds a level of complexity. John

Starting WORD has 2 annoying extra screens.

Thanks but there are no add-ins or plug-ins and WORD 2002 does not have an ORB. I can't find any reference to Resources or diagnostics. John

    Using an OEM OS CD

Thanks for the latest info. I was able to load the new XP into WINXP without erasing my docs and photos. Also I copied a good hal.dll to the old XP in WINDOWS, I think! I can't boot up the old XP probably because BOOT.ini has the wrong pointer but I don't know how to find it and edit it. Someone...

    Using an OEM OS CD

Well, I'm back again. Got the OEM CD and it did have a Product Key. I put it in the CD drive and hit "any" key when asked. It started booting various files like drivers and such and stopped at the Welcome to Setup window. It has an option to bring up the Recovery Console which lists 2 locations...

Thank you BigBadBen, Vacunita, Linney, Edfair and Sggaunt for your great advice. I feel confident enough after reading all your responses and links to order the CD. Using an OEM OS CD

My problem is a corrupted HAL.dll file in my XP Home OS. My first request for Help was answered by BigBadBen that assumed I had an XP CD which I don't. I started Googling and found references to XP Home OEM CD's. My first question to anyone who has used one of these is: How do I get my PC to...
