    Thanks for your help, however the software and hardware components are reading as installed in control panel and the firewall function is not enabled. Any other ideas?

    I have installed sp 4 which now allows me to distribute software to XP clients. However when I look at the software inventory there are no entries! All none xp clients are ok. It appears no software scan is being conducted on xp clients. I suspect this is another MS flaw but I can see no fix...

    w2k and XP under collections

    You need the latest service pack, sp4. That includes functionality for w2k and xp. Download it from MS. Be-careful when applying it though, I wasnt and had to uninstall then re-install the whole thing and then re-apply the service pack!
