1 computer claims 3 hard drives failed

Sorry I didn't put that in my outline of what happened. I was letting it auto-detect the drives, but it could not for some reason. I tried manually inputting the info to the bios, but that didn't work. I only retained the use of the origial 4GB drive after I removed the battery, put it back and...

1 computer claims 3 hard drives failed

Clearing the CMOS seemed like the easiest. The only way I know how to do that is remove the battery. Replaced it and entered the info for my 4GB. It came back to life. The other 2 are still dead. Oh well, I got back the one I was worried about. Thanks, Tim

1 computer claims 3 hard drives failed

I was given a hard drive(Western Digital 8.4GB) that is full of viruses and spyware. I was going to clear the drive and install it in a computer for my kids. I unplugged the hard drive in my computer(CTX, Pegasus e5tx-at motherboard, 32M RAM, Maxtor 4GB HDD, Win98SE), plugged the 8.4GB in and...

    A+ book, but missing CD's

Hmmm...yes that does present a problem with getting an actual certification, but I would still like to have the CD's for the entertainment value. Knowledge is Power! Thanks, Tim

    A+ book, but missing CD's

My mother gave me a copy of the A+ : Adaptive Testing Edition (ISBN# 1576105407), but the two CD's are missing. I tried to contact Coriolis, but they seem to be unavailable. I was wondering if someone could burn me copies, mail them and I could reimburse them for the expense or zip the CD's...

    Spontaneous reboot at dial up

Well, here is a recent addition to the numerous problems I have been battling with IE6 and Win98. For no apparent reason, approximately once a day, my computer will reboot upon connection with the internet. What the #@!*$% could be causing this? Perhaps this is Microsoft's way of telling me I...

stack fault and illegal operation with IE6

I can hardly even post here. IE6 keeps shutting down. I tried installing the latest version of my video driver but I still got the mshtml.dll error. I haven't seen the error since I changed the setting to 256 colors. I am going to try installing the drivers from the manufacturer's CD, because I...

stack fault and illegal operation with IE6

Thanks Kento. My tree is back in windows explorer. The information in the link you gave me points to the fact that I am using the wrong video driver. The irritating part of that is I have the CD with the manufacturer's drivers on it, but windows seemed to think that its drivers were the best...

stack fault and illegal operation with IE6

A funny thing happened on the way to search another forum for another system problem. I got a stack fault. This isn't the common one I usually see. Here are the details: IEXPLORE caused a stack fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff724c1. Registers: EAX=002a0037 CS=017f EIP=bff724c1...

stack fault and illegal operation with IE6

I'll have to wait for IE to give me another error message to get more details. I was told last night it gave an error associated with kernal32.dll . I am not running Gator, Roboform or Ad-aware. Although I have considered using Ad-aware. I am using Zone Alarm firewall, but I think I was getting...

stack fault and illegal operation with IE6

I am still running Win98. Whatever version of IE that came with Win98 SE use to cause an illegal operation and shut down on rare occasions. If I remember correctly it was associated with mshtml.dll . I upgraded to IE6 hoping that it would cure the problem, but it has only compounded it. Now I am...
