I just loaded RedHat 8.0 and told it to install ftp.
when I try to connect to the ftp server I get "connection refused" any ideal whats going on. telnet and rlogin work fine. /usr/bin/gftp-gtk process is running
I want to be able to create a simple process (like a sleep command)to run as a daemon process for testing purposes.
any ideal how I can do this. I would like it to run until I kill it and run under what ever process name I give it.

I had to have some help getting that going....any suggestions on what I could check on the ipop3. I think you may be on to something here. when I send a mail the speed is normal.
there is no error. it just takes about 30 seconds before it starts pulling the mail back to outlook on the P.C.
its like the connection is a 9600 baud modem.
on the previous version it was quicker. I think that
was sendmail V 8.9.?
ok I agree with that...I didn't mean to imply it was a version thing, bad description on my part.
I think it is doing extra security measures as well, Im just not sure what. I was hoping for a tweek in the sendmail.cf file.
I reinstall Red Hat 7.2 from 6.? this laid down Sendmail
8.11. now when we check our mail it takes about 30 seconds just to connect. Once connected it checks and drops off quickly......any ideal what's going on there?
I have a linux server at home to learn on.
I dont have a domain name for this server.
will that cause any sendmail problems?
when I try to start sendmail the prompt never comes back.
any ideal whats going on.
can i make the server think its a domain.com?
if you have a real account (unix login)on the send mail
server you can create a .forward file in your home directory and include the external email address in that file on the 1st line. when the unix account gets an email it will forward it to the external address.
