    bi - youve hit the nail on the head there. if i look in lscfg I can see all six disks but when i go to smit - devices - ssa raid arrays - and try to create or view i can never see any disks, what cabling could be wrong , ive checked it a few times.

    Have 6 disks in a 6 bay , so they are all populated yes 1 loop two cables I do get an error up on screen ssa1 SRN 45202 IBM SSA 160 Serial Raid Adapter 14109100 any ideas what this could be, not hardware fault cause ive just changed the ssa card itself

    just noticed something, you say loops can be made from 1-4 and 1-8 , would this cause this problem , I have 6 disks with no dummys, the bay and backplane only hold 6 disks. How can I check this???

    Have already done what you suggested , we go all the SSA cables and a new backplane sent from london, fitted them all and still have the same problem. I have verified all the drives and this comes back OK. I any more info is needed please ask and maybe tell me how to get it as this is the first...
