Thanks to both Pansophic and mrregan. But the problem remains. The printer will print when attached directly to the Linux machine if I use the 4410 driver build into Red Hat. But I need it in the room with the XP system. I tried deleting the Printer in RedHat and then recreating it "Raw...
I have a Panasonic KX-P4420 Laser Printer (not Postscript) connected to a computer running Windows XP. I am trying to print on that printer from another computer on the network running RedHat 9. I am able to get data to the printer but it is all trash and looks as if it may be postscript...
I am trying to install an Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller on a systems that already has Windows XP on it. When Windows XP loads, it gets as far as showing the desktop and the intro music begins to play, then the system hangs with the mouse cursor showing the hour glass. At this point the mouse...
If an IDE hard drive has been erased by being degaussed, can it still be formated in the normal manner or would it require some kind of low level format? If it would require a low level format, then what tools are available?
Thanks for the link gargouille; however, I've already been to the HP site. One other person asked the same question several months ago and never got a reply. It is a HP OfficeJet model number C2890A. Yes I have tried turning it on and off. And no, there is nothing in the manual about this...
When I turned my HP OfficeJet on today all of the lights blinked once then "Servo Processor Revision 2.4" was displayed. That is all it does. It just sits there with that message displayed and not leds on. Anyone know what causes this or how to fix it?
Thanks darranagl,
I've been looking at the Microsoft docs some more. They talk about the possible HAL's as being:
ACPI Multiprocessor PC
ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
MPS Multiprocessor PC
MPS Uniprocessor PC
Standard PC
Is this all there is...
I recently did a clean install of Win98SE on my dads computer. It is a HP and he didn't want all the extra junk HP puts in Win98 so he got a Full Win98SE Microsoft CD. I formated the HD and installed Win98SE. Then installed the device drivers from the HP recovery disk. Now every time I reboot...
I need to install WIN2K and other software on 4 computers and make the installations as near to identical as possible. However, each computer is different. What would be the best way to do this short of installing everything seperately on each computer?
I know that sysprep may be able to do...
Hey dinosnake,
Yes I am running in 100BaseT mode on both computers now, so far no glitches.
Thanks for all your help! It as been an educational experience for me. Now all I need you to do is figure out how to download all your knowledge into my brain. LOL

I think the problem is solved. I found a driver on DEC site for the 21143-PA chip set. It specifically said it solved the NWAY incompatibility with certain Bridges/Routers. Seems to be working fine so far!
Thanks for all your help!

Your mention of the patched drivers in Linux just made me check the connection speed in Linux. It is connecting at 100Mbs in Linux. I had not realized it since I don't have Linux on the other PC and therefore have not actually connected to anything at that speed. But the 100 link lite on the...
I probably wasn't clear about the LAN card. I do not know what brand it is. The router is a D-Link. I got several identical cards out of some generic PC's I bought at an auction a couple of years ago. They do all have the same part number but do not list a brand. The only info on the card itself...
Good thought about the wire dinosnake, but I already checked it. I once made about 100 cables at work and remembered these kinds of problems from back then, but the wires all seem to be correct.

Hi jomarikida,
Try this. In the start menu click settings/Control Panel/Network. On the configuration tab, make sure that the dialog box with your network card, tcp/ip, etc. contains an entry that says "File & Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks". If not, then click...
Thanks for the replies! dinosnake in the PC hardware - peripheral issues forum put me onto the right track. I had to set my "Media Type" on the network card to 10BaseT. It was set to Autosense. Also the dialup protocals and miniport driver installed by AOL software were causing...
