Problem resolved. I attached a LCD monitor to the system, replacing the CRT that was on it. When I rebooted this time I got the White Screen with the message ¨Type 1 to use this Display¨. I was then able to interrupt the boot and get in to single user mode. Thanks for your help, especially DukeSSD!

A little more info on this problem. It does not hang on a specific LED. I had no luck trying to get into SMS with 1 or ESC 1. Keyboard just doesn't respond at that point in the boot process. This problem came to light after the network group made some change and now the subnet mask has changed...

I had a similar problem once, you might check these. Is the IP address valid for the subnet your on? Also, check that there is not a duplicate IP address in you NIS maps.
