Deleting an NTFS dir while in DOS, how?

Hey, what if I were to convert the NTFS partition (C:) to FAT32, just so that I could delete the Windows folder? Would this affect files like MP3s and text documents? JDl

Deleting an NTFS dir while in DOS, how?

I am reinstalling WinXP over a partial install, and since I ignore whether the installation will replace every file found there I would feel better deleting the Windows directory before attempting a reinstall. Thanks in advance, JDL

    Is my sound card full-duplex?

Thanks ftechguy, I did try last weekend, but whether I started the conversation or my friend, it always failed. It wouldn't give a reason. But I am almost sure I did it in the past (like a year ago), I just can't bet on it :( Unfortunately I don't know anyone else with MSN Messenger and a mic to...

    Is my sound card full-duplex?

Thanks for replying norty303 :) No, I am not doing music. I just want to do some voice-chatting over MSN Messenger ;) According to what I read in its HELP file one has to have at least a half-duplex sound card. JDL

    Is my sound card full-duplex?

How can I tell? This is the info I have about it: Yamaha DS-XG (WDM) for laptop (Vaio) bought in 2001 Product ID: 104 / 1 Max Standard sampling bits: 16-bit Max Standard sampling rate: 44.1khz Channels: 65535 I have googled it, and used Sandra to gather this info, but I can't find anywhere any...

    Freezing on startup, why?

I have carefully and thoroughly checked the MB from various angles without finding any buldging neither rust, nor leaking :( JDL

    Freezing on startup, why?

Ski, I already know that 128Mb SDram chip is ok, I used it on another system, it worked fine. As for what you suggest doing to check the HD, unfortunately BEFORE I get that far I get a "Primary Master hard disk fail" message (which is already not very encouraging). After I press F1 to continue I...

    Wooden case

I remember have seen it done before. In fact, there was a step-by-step manual in a popular case moding site, I wish I could remember the URL. I would google it. Good luck. JDL http://www.sunnylandbaja.com

    Freezing on startup, why?

Oh, and as for chipping and or cracks, I didn't see any, nor rust. JDL http://www.sunnylandbaja.com

    Freezing on startup, why?

I forgot to mention... it invariably freezes while testing the ram (which is missleading IMHO, for you would think the prob is the ram, but remember I have already switched it over with other chips). So the only way I have managed to go any further is by skipping the memory test (using ESC)...

    Freezing on startup, why?

I don't see any brand on this 256Mb memory chip, except for: Korea C006 9824 FFF HM5264805TTB60 PC100-332-60 But I doubt the prob is the ram. I have already changed it for 2 64Mb Siemens chips, and obtained the same result. This is what I have done so far: - Set the BIOS to its default...

    Freezing on startup, why?

This pc freezes while doing the memory test. I have already changed the memory and I keep getting the same results. I have checked the IDE cables (40pins, one cable for each IDE device, both devices at the end of the cable) and CDrom and HD jumpers and everything is as it should. I have also...

Sony Vaio Laptop Recommedations & Advice

I wouldn't bet on it, but I am almost sure it has only 2 memory slots. I am sure you could add an external cdrw drive via USB 2.0, assuming your Vaio is using USB 2. What you should do though, is just go to the Sony website and check these things yourself. All you need is your Vaio's model...

Is it the MB the culprit here?

TT4U, well, I simply did as you said :) I just waited for that setup screen to show (2nd one I think), and pressed F5, then I chose the option you recommended, and the rest is history. Ed, you lost me. Is this something I should reply to? JDL http://www.sunnylandbaja.com

Is it the MB the culprit here?

YES! YES! YES!!!!! It finally worked! On the 4th day of working at it :) I am finalizing the XP installation on this damned pc! :) Needless to say, I couldn't have done it without you guys :) I am forever grateful. JDL http://www.sunnylandbaja.com
