    confirmation required

I do understand what you want to do but you must understand that unless you want to create a new domain, you must upgrade the pdc first. After that you can do the rest of what you want to, after you have at least 1 other DC running AD you can demote the upgraded PDC and reload with a fresh...

    confirmation required

If you install a new 2003 server you will have to 1. Create a new domain (2003 cannot join 4.0 domain.) 2. Leave the new server as a member server. If you upgrade you PDC to 2003 first you will avoid a lot of headache. You can not however have exchange 5.5 on it. You will be able to use 5.5...

    confirmation required

I don't know if this is what you are asking or if it will help but here goes 1. Upgrade the pdc to windows 2003(as long as your exchange5.5 is not on that box. If it is move it to the win 2000 box.) This will preserve all your users and set the forest and domain. 2. You can not run exchange...

    Excel and dfs

I hope someone has a suggestion on this issue, I have Win2003 Server, DFS replication. When excel saves an existing file, sometimes it does not rename the temp and just leaves the numbered temp file. This is random. Does not happen all the time with the same user. It does seem to be a...

    GPO Question

Create an OU for Admins. Create a GPO for that OU. This will over ride the Domain GPO. I use this method, it works well.

    Yet another ntbackup issue

check your backup schedule to see if you have the backup label as Tuesday on all days. I name the tapes by days of the week and number of the week(i.e. Friday-1, Monday-3, Tuesday-4) I use a four week rotation, by labeling this way ntbackup is looking for tape friday-1 on the day that it is...

    duplicate servers, mirroring

You can also use FRS to replicate data to another server. Using DFS you can manager your shares, replicate data to a share on another server, so that if server A goes offline clients are pointed to server B. ph

    Event viewer error message...

Assuming that the exchange box has an exterenal connection, check to see that it is not listed in dns as the address for that box(the external address). If this happens the other box can not reach the address on the network. You have to make some changes in your dns if this is the case. I have...
