have you got any kind of a Proxy client installed? Sounds like it is capable of seeing to the "big grey cloud" but is probably got a setting for an outbound server (proxy) somewhere..?? L

no I haven't but using a computer that still has the older version of pervasive (2000i) does not produce the problem. Neither did this computer until I upgraded the pervasive engine??
