I can't see all the computers in my network, why?

have you made sure that you have setup the correct sharing privileges in each computer. At each computer, click on the drive or folder you want to share, click on share, new share, fill it in with the share name, done. That might help.

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

I think the chipset drivers have a big part in it also... but I'm also wondering if it doesn't have something to do with either the video drivers or Norton System Works 2001... I'm using the ati radeon 7500 dual monitor video card and i also downloaded the registry fix under utilities on the...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Well guys, I went the drastic route, which I think was about my only choice at this point... I deleted all my partitions, formatted the whole thing as one big partition, then restarted with the win2k cd, deleted that partn, and created the partitions that I wanted during setup... I logged in...

User with Admin rights doesn't have them?

Tpugil, I understand that, however, I need to know how to give myself administrative rights that allow me to log in to the windows update application. Possibly, you need global as well as local admin privileges. I'm not sure. But I do know that my other machine has admin priv, and I can log in...

    disabling windows update

I just saw that feature last night either in the Windows 2000 resource book or on the ms windows support website.. If I find it again, I'll let you know...But I do know it's out there... Sorry I couldn't be more help... Actually, you probably already found it anyway... this is a pretty old...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Ok, It was about 24 hours... and it froze once. Then, next day I turned it on and probably froze about 5 or 6 times... But it seems like it is or was a little more stable this time ... I'm going to try to reapply the new Video Drivers again. See what that does. I'm still trying to figure...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

I just installed the MS Windows 2000 AGP Patch last night from the AMD site... It's been about 12 hours, I've been using the computer on and off and haven't seen it crash more than once. But that was before I restarted it from the patch install. So, technically... it hasn't crashed since the...

User with Admin rights doesn't have them?

CJ, That does help. I do have a user account with admin privileges on each machine. I'll tell you what I see, and maybe you can tell me what I'm missing? control panel>admin tools>comp management>local users and groups>users> Here I have the username bellins1 and the Administrator account. I...

User with Admin rights doesn't have them?

Hi Joe, I was trying to figure it out last night but didn't really get too far. I have a workgroup setup with one client pc and one gateway pc. They both use the same login account. One works on the gateway, but the same account doesn't work on the client. These are local accounts though... I...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Ken, I was curious if it might be an IRQ problem also... but was never very successful in the past in troubleshooting IRQ problems... plus, I thought windows 2000 took care of that issue, instead of leaving it up to the BIOS... not sure though.. This is what I have when I click on the DevMgr...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Also, I notice that just before the computer locks up, it will sometimes give me a warning by clicking excessive amounts of data through the hard drive. You actually hear it clicking a lot of data through, as if it's getting choked up. It's a brand new 60gb IBM hd, and the c partition was just...

User with Admin rights doesn't have them?

Joe, Thanks for writing down my exact problem... I cannot figure this out ... I feel like I'm missing something here too....but I am seeing the exact same thing. I only have a workgroup of 2 computers networked together, built them both with clean installs, and did basically the same...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Steve, Check the voltage in your plugins in the house (it's not likely in the power supply or it would hav crashed at best buy) and try some different RAM (it's cheaper to borrow some from a buddy's computer just to test it). If that doesn't work check for IRQ conflicts with your NIC and...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Well I reseated all the cables, video card, cpu and fan. And I updated the video driver, and in the bios, I disabled the configuration "IRQ to PCI", since it is an AGP card. The CPU had this red gummy material on it from the factory, and the cpu is strange in that it's not flat all...

    Installing -Windows 2000

I've been installing win2k lately... and I think I've found this to help most often... but I'm not sure if it was my cd drive that was the problem or what... But I copy at the least the I386 directory to another partition, then start it with a win98 startup disk... type: >winnt.exe at the i386...

how can I backup system on floppywhen I don't have tool?

PC42e, Does MSBackup save the whole partition or drive with data and free space, or does it only save the data? And how long does that take to back up? (I've never used it) That's what I liked about Ghost, was the fact that it won't take up so much room when backing up a partition, because it...

how can I backup system on floppywhen I don't have tool?

I agree, I've been backing up my systems quite regularly with ghost. I save it to a different partition than the one I'm backing up. I'm in the process of installing an iomega cdrw to get the backed up files off the hard drive, so I can clear up some space. Ghost works pretty well. Akloster2...

    windows 2000 freezing up intermittently

Hey Harshian, Sorry to hear you're in the same boat... But what do you send back? :) I've done replaced everything except the darn case,ps,cd,fd... I've about had it with this thing... I've been buying all new parts for it, and replacing them to still find out I have the problem. I can't wait...
