Rebbot the server and check to make sure your scsi card and tape device are seen during post. Had this problem and had to move some cables back and forth to make the devices seen again. Mine was caused by 2003 sp3.
May not be your issue but, I alwas say rule out the simplest things before...
without additional info my guess is a network interruption. We use to have similar issues with Backupexec 8.x. I would due some networking monitoring to see if something is flooding the network or you ma have a bad switch.

I had the same thing all of the suden start happening to my VLDB. After fighting with it and seeig others have problems I moved to SQL 2005 3 weeks ago and have not had any problems. I had tech support tell me they supported 2005 about a year ago, nothing in writing though.

You need to set up groups and put the appropriate slots in the appropriate groups the configure you jobs to use the appropriate groups. If you configure your protection scheme correctly you will not need to erase you tapes manually.

For windows you can push the clients out using the installer from the server. Run the install again only this time select remote install you can the add your clients and select the agents you need.
I have it installed on two servers with no issues. the only trouble I had was after the install my tape devices would not recognize (Dell 132t and 124t). After some fiddling with with the system I was able to get them back online and everything has been runnig fine since.
