Unfortunately not upgrading to SCCM. Same domain/forest. So basically, shutdown all SMS services on old server with same site code, delete entries in AD. Is there anything else? I know you can do this in SCCM, but in 2003, if old and new servers have different site codes, can the old be set as...
We are going to be replacing an existing SMS servers with new SMS servers. The new servers will have a different name and different site code. We are NOT keeping the existing database, but may want to import Collections/Packages, if possible. Is there any documentation or advice on the proper...
This may be a dumb question, but in the Advanced Client on the SMS Site Server, does the Advanced client have to be it's own Site Code? Can the SMS Site Server Client belong to another site with no problems? If more background/reason is needed, I can provide.
We created one Collection and added the other sites as sub-Collections, but you can still see them all, including the sub-collections. How do you make a "private collection folder". Not heard of that.
Thanks. We have the security settings set where no other site can view. I was hoping we could "hide" the collection itself (or block it) as to not have approx. 24 collections unnecessarily being seen by each site.
Is there a way to prevent a Collection from flowing down to primary child sites from the Central server? I have several Collections to build, I know that I can manage the permissions on each collection, but I would like to prevent the child sites from even getting them or seeing them. Any help...
I have done this in the past but my memory fails me. I need to change the location of the SMS database from drive c:\ to drive e:\ on the same server. Should I detach then reattach the database to the new location? Or, should I backup and restore to new location? Whichever way is best, do I...
After I wrote this, I found the info the clients only belong to Primary sites. I have a PMP on the Secondary, but the clients are not seeing it. They are still going to the Primary as the default MP.
I have a delimna. Here's what I'm trying to do and it's not working like I want. I have set up a Secondary Site as a MP and have it reporting back to a Primary Site. The clients I want to assign to the Secondary Site are giving an error "failed to assign site" when I type in the site code for...
Is there a limit on how deep SMS will pick up OU's and sub-OU's? I want to set up AD Discover on a site and the site admins have set up the Test OU as follows:
SiteName\Users\DeptName\Computers\Test
Would this cause any problems?
We are in the planning phase of setting up a Central Site and Primary Child sites. The powers that be want to set up a Reporting Server in the DMZ to access and utilize only the reports from the data collected at Central site. I'm not sure how to do this. Does this server need to be set up as...
I'm having problems distributing packages. (I have inherited this system and didn't set it up). I have found in the locationservices.log file on the test client
"Retrieved local management point from AD: (name of server)" and the name of the server is one that no longer exists. The settings...
I have searched everyone and fumbled through the Capacity Tool to no avail. Can someone verify or give me a guess at a recommendation how many servers for the following for SMS 2003, SQL, Distribution Points per client numbers: (this is my guess)
1 to 1,200 clients: 1 SMS Server, 1 SQL...
Thank you very much! This is a great help in understanding management with a Central site. However, one quick question: if the Primary site creates their own collections and packages, does that information flow up to the Central site as well, or can we block that information?
