If you've recently upgraded the BIOS, chances are fair that DMA mode was disabled. Go into the BIOS and set DMA mode to UDMA 2. You may also have to do this in Device Manager.
Need to know if there are any error codes in Dev. Mgr., or if the "cdrom" category has disappeared. Also, which O/S do you run? Hint-if it's a code 31, see my FAQ under "Hardware Detection". ;)
