I took the advice here and hooked the old HD to the CD drive cable and the BIOS sees it now. It shows as a slave on the secondary IDE channel but I don't care as I can access it and get my data off! Thank you, thank you. I fiddled around with the jumpers but still couldn't get it to change...
I have an Aptiva which suddenly dies. I finally figured out that the hard drive seems to have some sort of mechanical proble. I installe and new drive and the systemis up and running. The problem, of course, is that i want some of the data on the old drive. I was hoping that if i hooked it up...
