We have managed to temporarily bypass the problem by reducing the data backed up (by zipping up old files), as the error only seemed to occur when 3.25Gb had been written to the tape.
If the new SCSI drive resolves the problem permanently, please let me.

I have recently reinstalled Seagate backup exec v7.0 Rev 719 (quickstart edition) and since the reinstallation, backups have failed towards the end of the process stating that 'the i/o bus was reset'. An example log is displayed...
