RAID for Dell host ESXi 5.0

The cards I have are all supported, made sure of that a while ago. Guess I'll go with the SAS cards to simplify things. I'd love to go USB with these, but every time I read a guide or talk of it I see "...but not in production". Dell said the ESXi embedded image they provide isn't supported on...

RAID for Dell host ESXi 5.0

We're getting ready to switch from Virtual Iron (killed by Oracle) to vmware. VI runs diskless so we have a pile of pulled RAID cards from our current hosts which are all PowerEdge 1950s. I have in front of me SAS 5/i, SAS 6/i, and PERC 5i cards. The SAS cards are basic RAID 0/1 cards w/ no batt...

    ADPREP on Win2K SP4

Yes this is on the FSMO. In the end I reduced the page file, ran a chkdsk, then defrag. Got to 1.8g free and it worked! No idea what it could need all this space for, but it really was the disk space. I was able to add the Win2K8 to the domain and so far so good...

    ADPREP on Win2K SP4

I've managed to free up a 1.18g of free space, and it's still failing with the same error. I'm starting to guess that it's not actually a free space issue.

    ADPREP on Win2K SP4

I should add that this Win2K server was already updated to schema 44 last week. I can see both my Win2K servers running schema 44. When adding the Win2K8 server I'm being told to update the schema, which is giving me the error... Is the current released Windows 2008 44, or higher?

    ADPREP on Win2K SP4

Trying to run ADPREP on Win2K to add a Win2K8 DC. ADPREP /forestprep is failing with error(31). Log files says 'not enough space on the disk'. This POS machine has 730mb free out of 4g, so how much space could this process actually need?! Any suggestions?

Outlook 07 - Replying causes hang due to web lookup

Ok so I have a real pita problem. In my office we do not have internet access on our workstations. So when we receive an HTML message (i.e. newsletter) with inline images etc it wont load. No prob there. Problem is if you try to forward or reply this message in someway it'll stay frozen till the...

TS licensing. User and Device same time?

I have a 2003 R2 TS server with 10 Device CALs. Can I add User CALs now, or am I tied to Device from now on?

TS (RDP) slow to respond initially

Users are LAN, DNS is fine. Seems in the end it was licensing. I just licensed the server yesterday and as clients are now using the new CALs over the eval licenses. Zero delay for RDP to the server now.

TS (RDP) slow to respond initially

I have a Win2K3 R2 TS server with 10 users. Not sure what was enable or changed to cause this, but there is a long delay (20-30 sec) before the RDP client connects. No delays with other networking to this machine though. Any ideas? I'm thinking this may be a common thing with Win2K3 TS and...

    SAN OS of any kind?

I am looking at migrating my data over to a new SAN in the near future. Right now we're looking at EqualLogic stuff. On top of that we're thinking about the old storage units we'll have left on hand. It would be a huge waste to drop them as it's 1.4TB x2 units. These units are direct attached...

    Recommendation of internal VOIP?

Thanks for all the great info guys. Can I ask a VERY n00b question? If I setup a SIP server (say Ondo) how do I connect software VoIP clients, or IP phones? Is it as simple as configuring the IP phone with a typical network setup and point it to the SIP server? I'd guess the software would be...

    Recommendation of internal VOIP?

Interesting, I'll try to find something on it. Thanks.

    Recommendation of internal VOIP?

Then I can't administer it! As well all sites route to the internet through the head office. Skype would be going from say Vancouver to Montreal to iNet, then back to Montreal etc.

    Recommendation of internal VOIP?

I've been asked to see if we can do some kinds of VOIP or chat system on our WAN here at work. We have 60ish small locations across north america and 2 large offices. We have a MPLS network that connects all these locations. We aren't looking to replace the phone systems across the board so any...

Add DC to domain, getting error.

Nevermind I found it. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/en/advanced/help/default.asp?url=/windows2000/en/advanced/help/sag_ADidentifySchema.htm Turns out my correct server is the master. Now on to why it's not sending out the update...

Add DC to domain, getting error.

I have assumed I ran this on the master but I'm not having doubts. I mean I ran it on the first DC that was created for this domain.. How can I ID which DC is the Schema master right now?

Add DC to domain, getting error.

So I'm a putz. Turns out all my DC's are non-r2 2003. So that explains my first post. Now I've adprep'ed my original DC and that worked well. I'm noticing the other 3 DC's are still schema 30 in the registry though. Doesn't /forest propegate this change? Or do I run this on all the DC's?

Add DC to domain, getting error.

Ah ha! Thanks for the info. I'm seeing 30 for the Schema Value. Can I run adprep while clients are on the domain and working?
