I have seen this before where someone has plugged a network device (e.g. nic card on a PC) into a port that goes straight back to an extension port on the PABX. An impossible thing to locate easily.
What about power issues? is there a UPS in place?, anything else the PABX is plugged into for...
you really running 4.2(2) on an IP500v2??? If that is accurate, that is problem enough and the first thing I would address.
I have never seen an SCN be at fault for phones freezing. I have however seen major issues where the NIC on the main unit was getting smashed and caused a similar outage...
I see it every now and then. Just go with it and let it update it's ID's. It is a change it makes to the underlying DB you cannot see and causes you no harm. Say yes once to the system and it wont ask again unless there is some other version change in the future that also requires the same...
