make sure the smarthost smtp server you are forwarding to is configured to allow relaying by the ip address that is sending to it. configure this on the smtp virtual server on the smarthost itself if this a exchange 2000 box.
You can right click the properties of the web site in Internet Services Manager and select from the drop list the IP address you want assigned to that web site. You do not need two NIC's you can actually bind multiple IP addresses to one NIC. Hope this helps.
