I came across this today Link which I have not tried myself however, it looks very simple and no need for 3rd party software.
I have always used Offline NT Password Changer which can be found here Link or by downloading Hirens Boot CD
If I was to use this, I cannot install the parallel print driver on the Win 7 computer as it doesn't exist. I would have to install it in the XP VM so, I am assuming that the printer would still have an IP address that I could access from Win 7?
Hi Ed:
Si I understand, the idea is that the server connects to the printer via the parallel connector and the connector connects to the network via Ethernet cable. The printer then has an IP address that the computer prints to. Is that right?http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1724633
Thanks
@ Chris - have not investigated the server idea

Thanks but in the end it was more expedient to backup and reinstall Windows
I had done the various scans to determine if it was infected earlier (I should have mentioned it) but there was nothing evident.
In any event, my problem is solved

@ Linny - thanks for the suggestions.
I ended up creating a new user on the computer and WLM opened without a problem. I then copied all files over to the new user and it works.
The old user must have somehow been corrupt although this was the only glitch that has ever been encountered
