There is not a phone on this port. When I started on this problem it was assigned X, but thinking that the problem could be the port assignment X, I assigned it to an unused port.

I have a station that, when called goes directly to the cov pat assigned to it without waiting for the requisite number of rings. I unforwarded it (though apparently it was not forwarded) and that did nothing.

From a 2420 phone I was not able to transfer after changing the 'RLA' to N. It appeared to put the call on hold with no Dial tone. This is second hand information, so I'm not really sure if she could finish the transfer in some way or not.
A second appearance did the trick.
One draw back to putting another phone number as an appearance is that you can't transfer those calls answered on those 'foreign' stations to another station.
That is,if you answer 7186 on the 2411 phone, you will not be able to transfer it anywhere.
Sometimes a call pickup group or coverage...
That assumes 7186 is an existing digital station.
If not add it with x as the port and any digital set as the station type.
Also if 7186 is an analog station you would need to create an abridged-appearance.
During the first week of college in the dorms all the phones in the dorms and frats would be full.
Also during wheat harvest here in Kansas the full boxes would follow the harvest crews.

To eliminate the possibility of trouble on the PRI, you can put in a loopback facing the central office and have the provider run from the CO to the loopback. Probably not the issue but at least you can eliminate that as a problem. Make sure they send bit errors to themselves and see them coming...
There are many different ways to do this.
If I were you, I would find an old retired Outside Plant telephone guy to get you started.
He'll do it for a lunch and once he gets you started he will probably insist on staying around to make sure it's done right.
That way you won't have any troubles...
Unfortunately, I failed to consider outside calls when I first set this up, so I didn't make them non-DID.
