The only time I really use my speakerphone is when I am trying to reach someone and their lone is constantly busy. I turn the volume down so I can just about hear if it's busy or not and hit redial until it rings, then pick up the handset. I HATE it when people use speakerphone when not behind...
Ours are however the managers want them. We're in rows. Picture the beds in the Madeline books... desk after desk in each area. At least in this part of the dept.

Back when I tried selling Tupperware they gave me testomonials like that... Pampered Chef too... They are legit, but if you check the fine print I think they have something there that says something like "results not typical" kind of like with those diet shakes and pills... some...

I sympathize! In the previous dept I worked in I was given a daily concert of some "golden oldies" and Sinatra, Tony Bennet, etc. Not just the loud playing cds, but the singing along done by one of the women I shared a cube wall with. I am glad to be here, even...
We're issued cell phones and required to keep them on and with us at all times, 24/7. I still refuse to answer the phone in the ladies room, though!

lionelhill, I am just glad they vacuum most nights around here - I'd have bugs for sure! I am afraid to turn my keyboard upside down... who knows what's gotten in there! :-O
As for headphones, many in my area use them... we do not even get cubicles here, just lines of desks... I really am not...
I eat... not a very healthy habit, but I keep junk food (sealed and wrapped of course) in my desk and frequently, when I am stressed or really into a project I will nosh on whatever I've got, then look in the cafe to get more... right now there is an open box of Vanilla creme wafers on my desk...
I think it's a "Walk a mile in the other person's shoes" issue. Techs are supposed to undeerstand the basic workings of all the systems we work on. Users frequently don't understand even the processes behind what they do on the computer or why things happen the way they happen. this...

That's very true. I don't think I would ever go to management with anything less than an impartial analysis, regardless of my personal feelings about it.
And you are right... as much as I could fool myself into thinking my jobv was a little safe... I know it's pretty much anything...
You've made good points. I likely would be the support person for the software package if they decide to go with it.
Right now, for our system we use now, I am the only programmer working on it. It's my resposibility to see that it stays up and running and works well. An outside system...
I came from the main dept I do work for. I put in a few years as a clerk there while going to school and getting training, then I transferred to a programmer position. I think this gives me a unique view compared to some of my co-workers. I understand most of what the systems for them are...
I'm very fair-skinned... IT has actually saved me from way too many cases of sun-poisoning! ;-)
And you just reminded me to make an appt for new glasses...

Thanks everyone! :-)
I will have to get more details on the info related to the software they are looking at before I could really do a cost comparison at all... I am not usually involved at all when it comes to costs - that's usually left to the managers, and I like it like that...
Here's the dilema:
I administer/program/support a SQL Server 7.0 DB with an ASP front end that was developed here, in company. I have been with it since the beginning. It has many ways in which it can be changed, expanded, etc., but everytime I put in to start a project that will do that, I...
I doubt it... finding me posting here while working would likely be grounds for termination - he sees "tek-tips" as a site I go to and thinks I am looking stuff up and getting new and innovative ideas for work... and quite often I am... but sometimes I need to blow off some steam too...
Ok... another update...
All of a sudden, I'm wonderful again. Very confusing, but a pleasant surprise, I suppose. According to my boss the past few weeks I have been showing over 100% improvement and I should keep up the great work and he is very happy with my improvements, etc.
My review is...
I do my best to just grin and bear it... but must admit that when I have to explain the same thing to the same person over again for the 6th time that month... I do get a bit impatient! ;-)
I have been on both "ends" in the past 10 years. I went from being a Data-Entry clerk to...
