I have not found an IDS/IPS solution that seems to be worth the investment. That being said, are their legal obligations related to SOX, GLB, HIPAA or anything else requiring IDS to be implemented at locations dealing with confidential data?

We have a vendor supported software application on our iSeries that requires modem access for the vendor at all times. I would like to secure this process as much as possible. Is there a product or solution that can somehow authenticate them? Thank you

You can not back up software unless you are using a replication software at the bit level. You can, however, use a software like PC DNA to move all your registry and applications to a completely different PC.
Monitor software? I assume you mean graphics card.

Not sure where to throw this, so I will throw it here.
Onstream is GONE. The site is gone, and apparently so is the company. Where does that leave those of us who invested in their tapes and drives?
My question is whether another brand will read and use those tapes. I do not mind buying new...
I am having issues with accessing the Internet on DHCP Clients, and I am pretty sure it is because it is not assigning a DG. I do not see that option in the scope. How do you push a DG?? Thanks

I think I have a similar problem. Is this the message you get:
"The Internet Mail Service requires the DNS domain to be configured on XXXX. To configure the domain name, use the NETOWRK icon in the control panel XXX or choose another server."
I am trying to install a new E5.5 on a...
I had that problem once. Nothing worked but to reinstall the OWA component and reapply the SP. ------------------------

I am working on installing a new Exch 5.5 server on a Windows 2000 Server. I am adding an IMS and am getting the following error:
"The Internet Mail Service requires the DNS domain to be configured on XXXX. To configure the domain name, use the NETOWRK icon in the control panel XXX or...
After promoting a new PDC, some users sporadically get an "unable to find DC" error.
I noticed on some WINS settings, they have "enable LMHOSTS lookup" checked. I unchecked it and I was OK from then on.
Why would this be checked if there is no HOST file? and would that...
Periodically I find sites that only a handle of users can reach. Normally I go in to samspade and resolve the IP, enter the IP, and it resolves the DNS name after that.
Why would that happen sporadically?
Could it happen due to zone transfers not going correctly?
If so, how do I verify this...
I have a mailbox that is owned by 6 users. Is there a way to avoid items being "marked as read" in EVERY one of their Outlook Inbox instances when the FIRST person reads that new item? TIA ------------------------

Is there a GOOD way to replace a machine and use the SAME machine name in NT 4 domains?
When I have tried to use a name that has already been used in NT 4, it always comes back to bite me due to SID generation and age old references in WINS, etc.
What if you disjoin the domain, replace the...
Every once in a while, we come upon a site that we get DNS errors on. It later works, but for that moment, our internal DNS can not determine the site. We can however, get to the site via IP. I know that is very general, but has anyone seen something similar? ------------------------

I started seeing FTP Status emails in the NDRs sent to administrators who have not worked here in a long time. Because the message fails, it resends about 100 times. The body is as follows:

Well, isn't it xyz.com's DNS that needs the MX record?
We are talking about 6 email addresses, tops.
These users need to use both addresses. They will only use xyz.com when the business relates to that company. (I know, it sounds asinine. That is why I am in IS and they are in their...
BTW::
I do NOT want to be added to their mail replication or vice versa; I just want these handful of users to be able to have this functionality (multiple domain email addresses)
I want to handle mail for a second domain that is owned by another company we are working with.
ie We are abc.com, and they are xyz.com, but some of our users need xyz.com email addresses.
I configured our IMS to accept xyz.com as inbound, and I am assuming that xyz.com needs to add an MX...
I agree. I use a Linksys Router with a 4 port switch and have been very happy with it. You can use ICS if you are using Windows 2000, but that gives you no added security. Don't forget AV software!!!
