Well I am presuming it is XP compatible (US Robotics are usually pretty good) but it seems weird that usually it works fine if turned on before power up. I'll try to find newer drivers and see what that does. Thanks Shaun

OK guys I got this sorted... windows pretty much died the day after I posted this question - opening any window gave an error message! I basically just reinstalled 98 over itself and all problems disappeared. For once I'm thankful to Microsoft for the 98 installer... saved my life! :-) Cheers...
