Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

I guess that this can't be done? If not, then I may have to build a view/key subgrouping/sorting prior to data retrieval. LB/Ido - thanks for responding and trying. Thanks, T

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

Sorry, Ido, maybe I am just a bit slow this morning, but I am confused as to what you want me to respond. I just want to get to the "After" result that is on the spreadsheet and have no idea how to accomplish it. Ultimate goal is to sort the groups by ADP ascending. The whole {table.under}...

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

In the spreadsheet, the "after" is what I am hoping to accomplish (the end result), but I can't seem to get that result. Before is simply the data set. Any suggestions? This is why I was hoping that when you do a group sort you can select "First N" rather than like "First Nth largest", or...

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

Hi LB, I have attached an Excel spreadsheet with before and after data and the logic that is being used. I highlighted the derive element on the spreadsheet too. Thanks! Thttp://www.trieusworld.com/files/samplesortgroup.xls

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

It got me closer to what I need but not quite there. The problem with the logic is that the records that don't have the {table.under} value will have regular ADP Codes, whereas the other will have the " " before the ADP code. The Minimum on the formula pulls correct ADP Code sequence, but what...

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

Hi LB, Here is the more accurate data set. (ID can never be null) Symbol Cusip ADP Code ID Under Security Description MSFT 12335 A12344 1 NULL Microsoft .wtmsft M2344 8TR333 77 1 Warrants - MSFT 10/30 BCE 23444 B21344 2...

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

Unfortunately it is possible to have a record that has a value that has a non-null Under that can exist on it's own (or several grouped together). I also double-checked the data and there will always be a non-null value for ID. Thanks, T

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

Here is what the sample report would look like: Symbol Cusip ADP Code ID Under Security Description MSFT 12335 A12344 1 NULL Microsoft .wtmsft M2344 8TR333 NULL 1 Warrants - MSFT 10/30 BCE 23444 B21344 2 NULL Bell .wtsbce...

Can I hide a subreport, but use its shared variable?

One workaround that I use is to make it really small, about 1px by 1px, remove the border lines, uncheck the 'can grow' option, and put it in the corner of the report or page header.

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

If I do a "MODE" against a non-numeric field, will it try to pick up the first one? It seems to be the case so far, but I need to run more test cases. I'm not sure this is a good approach for solving this issue. Thanks, T

Group by one, sort by another, with a twist

Thanks to lbass I was able to group by one field and sort by another. However, this report has a slight twist. When I am grouping the data, there is also sorting that is occurring within the group. Group by field A, sort by field B (which is a formula field). Outside of the grouping, I want...

Group by one field, sort by another

Thanks lbass. I inserted the summary field and used the group sort function just as you mentioned. Works perfectly! Trieu

Group by one field, sort by another

I have a report which is grouping by a pin number but I need to sort the groups by a specific name field. Is there a way to do this in CR XI R2?

    Grouping and Consolidating

Thanks LB, I tried the grouping and it works like a charm !! I have to take off for a meeting so I will try the parsing of the customers later. Appreciate the help! Thanks, Trieu

    Grouping and Consolidating

Hi lbass, Just to clarify, the formula you listed should be if {flag} = "Y" then {table.customers} right? Since this is the first level of grouping and then keep currency as the 2nd level of grouping. Thanks, Trieu

    Grouping and Consolidating

Hi, I have a report that currently has two levels of grouping. Level 1 is by Customer and Level 2 is by currency. Unfortunately because I am using an integrated solution with vb.net 2005 and cannot use parameters, I have been able to at least trap my parameter into a formula. (passing from...

    Dynamic Database connections

Thanks Ian. I will look into the native Oracle connection. We can't use it now because of the way the third party module works, but if it is the only way to work then it is something I will push to our product team. Thanks for the info. Trieu

    Dynamic Database connections

Hi Ian, I am using Crystal Reports XI R2 and am attaching to a SQL Server 2005 database via Ole DB SQL Provider. When we send the RPT file to our reporting servers, it usually looks at the registry and pulls the DB connection information via ODBC. So in one environment it may be...

    Dynamic Database connections

Hi, is there a way to pass a database connection from the main report to the subreports? As our report modules are being moved from one environment to another (DEV, TEST, PROD), the database connection info changes. We can pass a parameter to handle this for the main report, but is there a way...
