    Thanks. I replaced the whole of the lid of the laptop with one from a donor machine. The donor machine had a larger display area, but the lid was standard between the two. Are you suggesting that the display area might be 'hardcoded' into the gfx card? Thanks again.

    I've replaced my old Sony vaio laptop screen for one with a larger display area. The display does not now fill the available space, it has a black strip down the rhs and the display repeats the top few inches underneath. Is is win2k. Can this be fixed? Thanks.
