Thanks itsp1965. I understand that DHCP on a Window Server gives you all kinds of options but what about DHCP on the router? It sounds like there should be an option in the DHCP server on the router to set what DNS to use. Does that sound right?
Thanks for replies everybody. karlisi, when you separate DNS and DHCP on to different servers how the client network adapters configured? Are they setup to use the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" option? If so how did you do that?
Just to clarify so to use the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" option I will need to have the Windows Server box configured to be the DHCP server as well as the DNS server?
What is the best practice for a Domain network for a smaller office (20 users)?
We are in the process of setting up a Windows 2008 Server in order to have a Domain network in place to manage approximately 20 users and I have a few questions. Here goes:
1. Does DNS and DHCP have to be on the same server?
Currently our router has DHCP enabled so I was thinking I would...
Thank you for the information.
I didn't think something sounded right. Because I have gotten "Out of Office" messages to my Gmail account before. Looks like our Exchange admin does not know what he is talking about!!
My "Out of Office" messages only get sent to internal co-workers who are on the same Exchange server as me. I have had external people using Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, and misc. company email accounts send me email but they never receive my "Out of Office" messages.
I asked our Exchange admin...
I highlighted "Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Systems" but there is no context menu. I tried clicking on it and right clicking but nothing. I looked over in the windows to the right and there was nothing about adding a machine either.
There is no "Network" or "Preferred Shares/Machines" root nodes...
I went to the Source Tab and I see the following in the tree structure (dashes indicate a new sub node):
Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Systems
- Server (DBDEV)
- Local Disk (C:\)
- System State
There are additional nodes under "Local Disk" and "System State". DBDEV is the server I have...
The server can see the network fine. I can use "My Network Places" and see the domain and all of the desktops and servers on the domain.
I can connect to the server from another server as well.
Is there some setting I need to setup when installing BrightStor? Where exactly in BrightStor...
I installed BrightStor ARCserver Backup 11.5 on one of the servers on our domain. Everything installed fine but when I go to setup a backup I cannot see the network or any of the other computers on the network.
What do I need to do in order to see the other network computers?
Thank you
