    4 port double gang?

I found Leviton Inserts that look like wall outlets which allow two inserts to fit in the plate. If you place two of those in a double-gang, then use a double-gang outlet faceplate then you'll get the same effect.

First Home Network: Looking for Answers

Thanks for the replies and help, everyone. I successfully wired my house with Cat5e and RG6 Quad-shield. I tested the 20 points in the house using http://www.speedtest.net/ (linking to a server 50 miles away) and I was getting download speeds of 9000kbps, sometimes more or less. The upload...

Error on Building a Full-Text Catalog?

I have a full text index that is generating these errors on a daily basis, and we just noticed this today. We have three months of these errors but we haven't ever experienced an issue with the catalog; we can query the catalog and things return as they should. The reason we found this is...

    Home Network Map: Secure Enough?

I doubt I've got everyone and their mothers after me, but I've been told an unsecure network is like lending your wife to anyone you meet... eventually, there will be some nasty virus. Since I love my wife (And my home network) I figured it'd be a good idea to use protection... but, will a...

    Terminating Cat5e with A or B?

Pain - Do you have any recommendations for a hardware firewall? I was at Newegg reading some reviews and it seems the cheaper ones (Under $100) get a lot of negative comments. Unfortunately, I'm not able to spend over $100... If I connect the Cable Modem into the Firewall, then Connect the...

    Terminating Cat5e with A or B?

I'm not using a Router, Ravnz5. I'm going from Cable Modem --> Switch (Netgear Fs108) --> Patch Panel (Unknown brand - 24 Port) --> Wall (Leviton Cat5e Plugs Things) --> PC

    Terminating Cat5e with A or B?

I've finally wired my house and I'm ready to test the network. I break out the patch panel and wall plates and notice an A and B printed on the sides; each with a different wiring layout. How is a Novice to know which to use? Can I use B for both the Wall and the Patch Panel? Does it matter...

First Home Network: Looking for Answers

What I've been doing is stapling a zip-tie to the wood every two feet, so I can use it to hold wires and tighten if needed. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I'm going to start on this tonight and I'll be posting my results tomorrow. :)

First Home Network: Looking for Answers

Thanks for the post! That was really fast and informative... but, for every answer leads to a new question, it seems. 1) Is Cat6 really harder to install than Cat5e? As a novice, should I just run Cat5e or is a Cat6 install (With vertical and horizontal runs) a possibility with someone who...

First Home Network: Looking for Answers

I'm remodeling my basement and all the walls are currently open, as well as the ceiling. There are a number of rooms I am going to run some Cat6 UTP (Or Cat5e, if its the better option) to for in-wall internet connections. I already have a switch, a wall panel for all internet lines to feed...
