I did a similar thing with my PC. I did have to check the jumper settings on the (IDE) disks to check for master/slave settings. Master = boot disk, slave = secondary.
I think the not enough storage space error is a service pack issue.
We used to get the same error message, but changing the service pack to 6a solved it.
When you go to register the server, have you tried typing in the server name in the server field instead of clicking on the drop down...
I share each users home directory out with the username as the share name, then restrict the access to only that user.
Within user manager, in the Profiles \ Home Directory section, I use the connect h: to \\servername\username$, so all users map an H: drive to their own directory.
