Thank you for the help.
Some of this is so simple that I actually over think it. Your comment steered me in the right direction and I'm up and running.
Since static routes are configured for both vlans/subnets, all I had to do was also most the AP's Ethernet port as a tagged member of...
Please, I see some active forum members here.
I know this is a simple question but I'm still filling in my knowledge of VLANs. I have created 2 VLANs to host a WEP network for guests to our campus. The new subnetworks are blocked from accessing IPs on my currently untagged VLAN 1. This all...
I got it all working. I used 3COMs demo Network Director to create the VLANs that I needed.
system-view - to enter system-view
interface vlan-interface X - to change into the VLAN to interface
ip address X.X.X.X X.X.X.X - To assign an IP address with subnet mask.
The coresponding static...
What I'm trying to do is create VLAN2 in order to have our WAPs have access to a filtered VLAN2 that can only access specific Internet tcp/udp ports. I'd like to keep the majority of my existing network with servers, workstations and default gateway(router) to the Internet on VLAN1. Right now...
Hello and help,
I'm working towards a basic VLAN configuration with two VLANs - VLAN1(default), VLAN2 - I've used the demo Network Director to create VLAN2 with a seperate subnet. I'm having problems establishing routing between the networks on the separate VLANs. I thought I had established...
Does anyone know if the port based ACL filtering in the 5500G-EI SFP would be capable of creating a VLAN 2 that could only access say ports 80, 443, 21, 23, 25, 110, etc. when it was routed to VLAN 1?
The 5500G-EI SFP has to support this on its own as my ISP/WAN provider controls my firewall...
In case someone else is looking for the information out there.
No one has given me any input on this so after spending a lot of time reading and trying different scenarios I've determined without an additional ISP connection/gateway or a switch upstream of my 4070 that can handle port based...
Sure install 3COMs free Network Supervisor, do a network discovery and then search the MAP for the MAC address. Once found trace the link back to the 5500 and it will tell you which port it is on.
I hope this helps,

3COM Network Supervisor - FREE

You can use this to check port statistics, link statistics, etc. The advanced version has some other functionality but the free very is very useful. There is also their...
Uhm because SFP is cute? *GRIN*
Seriously, Media converters are very reliable. You already own them and if you have the 1000BaseT port for the copper the advantages I see are minor.
Perhaps, if the 3COM switch has a SFP port then you might not loose a copper port elsewhere on the network and...
Hello everyone,
I'm not new to the concept of VLANs/routing but I am to their actual implementation. I've been reading everything I can find on the subject and I'm wondering if anyone here could just help me get going on a fairly simple implementation.
I'd like to keep all of my network on the...
