Already tried it. I've followed the whole thing all the way around with a screwdriver.
There's nothing. I imagine the manufacturer has a secret way in but I haven't found it yet.
I may have overcomplicated my answer.
Open a command prompt and type dir.
Like so...

I don't think you can go wrong with Seagate. Fry's usually has some good deals on Seagate external drives.
A couple months ago I bought a 160GB for $50.
I just bought a 250GB Maxtor external for $50 (just couldn't resist the deal) but I trust Seagate more than Maxtor (I know, I know, Seagate...
I believe you can boot up off of a dos disk and run fdisk and it'll show you the serial number (fdisk doesn't appear to be installed with XP).
I remember back in my younger days, I had software that was tied to the serial number (for anti-piracy purposes) so I found a utility that would change...

allteltec - I tried following your instructions but I lost all internet access afterwards and had to restore default settings.
Anyway, I think my biggest problem was...
I don't want to hijack this thread but I have the same modem on Windstream and I haven't been able to get port forwarding working at all.
I've disabled the firewall on the modem, forwarded port 23 to my Linux box, as well as 5901 for VNC but I just cannot connect to my server from the internet...
