i want to know before i go download BIND if it is already available in a pre-compiled form for apache.
that would be great if it is, not so great if it's not.

yes, i started to play around with it, and figured that out. i think i also had too much security in place for it to be allowed, but it works now. I'm relieved to not have to work off of my server computer anymore. thanks anyway.

so here's the problem
users outside of my home network cannot access my server web pages.
to help you out:
1. Before i installed Zone Alarm i could access my pages from anywhere
2. before Zone Alarm i could remote connect to my server from anywhere
3. now that ZA is installed, neither of these...
after coding quite a bit into one file i have finally decided it would be much easier to edit if i had different classes in multiple files. i know you can do this is C++ because i've coded in that before.
anyone know any tutorials which could show me the way?

i get the general idea now. so basically, a mail server is completely different from my current web server. i have looked into Linux, even helped create a server with it. the problem i found is me + command prompt = bad. i DO NOT understand it yet, and it would be rather foolish of me to work on...
i don't mean using a browser. i mean when mail is sent to say admin@mydomain.com i want that mail to be sent to MY server, and to have all the software needed to hold it and use Mozilla Thunderbird (which is like outlook express)

i have apache with php running on it, and have a dns account. the dns website has downloads on it for email. can i download this software, and use mozilla thunderbird, or do i need something else?
i have been searching for any tutorial for setting up your own mail server, but none so far.

oh and i DID see the apache::asp download, but the apache website seemed to imply that the download was retired and therefore, not compatible with the latest version of apache (which i have)

as of now, i have setup my first server using apache. then i realized that what many websites use for their "online shopping cart" technology is asp, or some other language.
