i ended up putting an 40gb ide drive in and xp installed on that drive with no problems whatsoever. once installed, xp picked up my sata drive absolutely fine. didnt need to do anythin. is there anyway i can install xp on the sata drive from the current xp install?

what do you mean? as in the sata controller has its own bios? so the drivers are known as RAID controller drivers? do i need to set up a RAID array?
