One more post from me. The reason you have to run with multiple CS's is not really because of fault tolerance but because of hard limits. You can only install so many clients, so many media agents, and run so many concurrent jobs (ask Commvault! They know all about it). So when you hit a...

It may not be for everyone. But it works for me."

Can't argue with that. Seems like you have it all under control. Watch...

See, if you were able to one commcell with multiple master servers you wouldn't need to...

Yuck! Talk about not playing well in a large enterprise. Why can't you work with all your clients using one Commcell? Because they can't handle it, thats why!
And you recommend not applying patches and have to harass support...
Write a batch file that stops the service from a command line and use it in the "prescan process" field of the pre/post process tab on your subclient. Write another batch file that starts the service from a command line and use it in the "postbackup process" field of the same tab. this way the...
give kluken some slack, CV has driven him to the point of exasperation and he needs to blow off some steam. you'd be abrasive too if they gave you the run around for this long and then told you to kiss off because they can't help you. if all jobs get pruned off a tape due to a bug, it will be...
Are you backing up to tape? Does your Netapp have a direct connection to the tape library? I am running 3-way backups with the tape library connected to a different media server. Commvault recommended using a tape library directly attached to the filer for faster restores which is pretty...
The main tactic used here is stall and annoy the customer until they are so sick of dealing with the ticket that they give up. And the longer it goes, the more it becomes your problem to keep nagging them for help.
Good for you for actually taking action and doing something about it.
Look at a few different choices and compare costs. How much do you want to spend and what features do you need? How much will you have to pay in licensing and support fees every year?
Commvault 5.9 has a poor command line interface that was redone in 6.1. They are basically taking their existing software and adding a command line interface instead of having native commands from the start. So it will always be shaky.
I've seen the same thing using Commvault. They claim it is a Netapp bug (#132492-not public viewable) that I pasted below. I've tried turning DAR off and it doesn't seem to help much. NDMP restores have a hard time picking and choosing single files out of a large NDMP backup. I've had better...
