    Galaxy Losses data...

One more post from me. The reason you have to run with multiple CS's is not really because of fault tolerance but because of hard limits. You can only install so many clients, so many media agents, and run so many concurrent jobs (ask Commvault! They know all about it). So when you hit a...

Frbutler writes: "I also know it may not be the best but it is what I like and what I think to be the easiest to work with based on what I have been exposed to. It may not be for everyone. But it works for me." I write: Can't argue with that. Seems like you have it all under control. Watch...

BkpAdmin writes: "I have 9 Commcells / 27 MA's and so many clients I had an MR created in v5.0 for the client group feature you see in v5.9 and I am easily able to manage all of them with QNET." I write: See, if you were able to one commcell with multiple master servers you wouldn't need to...

    Galaxy Losses data...

Frbutler writes: "I have 4 comcells and 12 MA's" I write: Yuck! Talk about not playing well in a large enterprise. Why can't you work with all your clients using one Commcell? Because they can't handle it, thats why! And you recommend not applying patches and have to harass support...

    Scripts- Windows 2003 server - stop/start services

Write a batch file that stops the service from a command line and use it in the "prescan process" field of the pre/post process tab on your subclient. Write another batch file that starts the service from a command line and use it in the "postbackup process" field of the same tab. this way the...

give kluken some slack, CV has driven him to the point of exasperation and he needs to blow off some steam. you'd be abrasive too if they gave you the run around for this long and then told you to kiss off because they can't help you. if all jobs get pruned off a tape due to a bug, it will be...

    CommVault Galaxy Reovery?

Don't switch! What would Commvault give you that Veritas doesn't have?

    problems after 6.1 upgrade

Kudos Commvault, kudos. Now the next step is they will deny this is a problem for a week then issue a Sev 1 patch for everyone.

Extremely slow NDMP restores (NetWorker 7.2 + NetApp)

Guess this is a Commvault-only feature. They license it separately and sell it probably for this scenario.

Extremely slow NDMP restores (NetWorker 7.2 + NetApp)

Restore data to the NetWorker server attached to the StorageTek (if NetWorker supports it) and manually move the restored files to the NetApp.

Extremely slow NDMP restores (NetWorker 7.2 + NetApp)

Are you backing up to tape? Does your Netapp have a direct connection to the tape library? I am running 3-way backups with the tape library connected to a different media server. Commvault recommended using a tape library directly attached to the filer for faster restores which is pretty...

    Galaxy Losses data...

The main tactic used here is stall and annoy the customer until they are so sick of dealing with the ticket that they give up. And the longer it goes, the more it becomes your problem to keep nagging them for help. Good for you for actually taking action and doing something about it.

    CommVault Galaxy Reovery?

Look at a few different choices and compare costs. How much do you want to spend and what features do you need? How much will you have to pay in licensing and support fees every year?

My head is spinning from the amount of patches they are pumping out.

    CommVault versus Networker

Commvault 5.9 has a poor command line interface that was redone in 6.1. They are basically taking their existing software and adding a command line interface instead of having native commands from the start. So it will always be shaky.

Extremely slow NDMP restores (NetWorker 7.2 + NetApp)

I've seen the same thing using Commvault. They claim it is a Netapp bug (#132492-not public viewable) that I pasted below. I've tried turning DAR off and it doesn't seem to help much. NDMP restores have a hard time picking and choosing single files out of a large NDMP backup. I've had better...
