FOUND IT!
On Advanced Options, under Cut Copy and Paste one option that was turned off by default was "Cut, Copy and sort inserted objects with their parent cells" - Once turned on normal behaviour was restored. Can't think why it would not be on by default which is what most people would...
Thanks for the replies. Hibernation is OK as far as it goes and so are batch files to open groups of applications but they are not exactly what I am after. Sympology is right - I would like the ability to save various configurations, not just to re-open when I come back to the machine but...
Hi Glenn
Well I had SP3 on both Windows and also Office but I wasted a whole lot more time after posting trying to fix through reinstallations, DLL checking etc all of which was going nowhere. Also with other instabilities in Office and elsewhere I accepted the inevitable and spent the weekend...
OK - I made time (!) and the report works like a dream using all of your suggestions. The modification to recordsource is a total success too and I will be able to use that elsewhere as well as here. I am so pleased with your help - my very sincere thanks.
Fantastic!!!! Thank you very much indeed.
I had a similar inspiration shortly after posting (after 4 days I would have hoped for at least a germ of an idea!) but your solution is more stylish. I just went for a 12 month table and used the month number in the Master/Child link which most...
I have devised a report which gives the following type of information for a single month:
ACCOUNTS OPENED
John Smith
Richard Jones
ACCOUNTS CLOSED
Jim Arnold
TOTAL OPEN AT END OF MONTH: 37
The data all comes from a single table and is presented using 3 sub reports, each fed with a suitable...
Thanks, Remou! That's a lot more stylish than I was suggesting.
I remember having this problem many years ago and it was something to do with how a computer does its maths down at bit level (ie everything is an addition of some sort, even a subtraction!) which gives rise to these tiny figures...
A little further information:
The problem comes about when there is a chain calculation requiring more than one negative number to be deducted and where both the negatives have decimal places. Even then it is not always the case that you will get a non-zero result but when it does happen it is...
Access is giving me strange results for perfectly straightforward calculations. For example, try the following in the Immediate window of VBA:
1108.91 - 306.38 - 802.53
The answer should be 0 (or 0.00) but is actually 1.13686837721616E-13 (which in non-scientific display is 0.000000000000114...
More feedback, Trevil....
I found a copy of the uncompacted system so just tried compact and repair on a local machine. This time the problems were worse - they affected more tables, the data was very garbled. even to the extent of a date showing in a number field etc. Access then crashed...
Thanks Trevil for replying.
I must admit I did not compact the "prog" file too. I think I may have a copy of the non-working file at the office so I'll try that next week.
Yes I was using the standard Tool/Database Utilities/Compact and Repair function. Someone else suggested that there...
I have a large Access system (Office 2003, Windows XP Pro) which comprises the main program file with all forms, queries, reports and VBA and then 4 data files which share the 50+ tables feeding the system each table being linked into the prog file. I experience unpredicatble problems when doing...
I hadn't even thought of this approach! I tend to favour exporting raw data from Access and then presenting/manipulating within Excel because these systems run both on an office system with 20 users/centralised file server and also on various self-contained laptop or desktop systems which are...
Thanks, Skip. Had alrady tried virtually every possible option but all without success. In fact it is possible by making a copy of the chart on another page to get two charts both showing different results from the same data. Since first posting I have tried opening and repairing the file...
I have a number of Excel files which are populated by data exported from Access. One of the files is behaving most oddly! It's charts have data tables on them and the data tables show different figures from the source data. Opening the file for the first time this month, I see that the data...
