Your Nortel sucks comment is not necessary and not true.
When you buy discontinued/EOL gear from eBay, you get what you pay for. The 28115/ADV was phased out 4 years ago.
Have you tried getting information from Cisco via the web? It's not free.
Your console cable should be configured this...

By the way, old console cables work.
I make console cables for Nortel gear, and I can tell you that the same console cable I made in 1997 works on 2002 BPS2000s 450s 350s, etc.
Serial port is wired straight-through. 8n1 9600 is standard, but some people change it. Try 19200. Try turning flow control off in your terminal settings.
What rev of code are you running? A 5380 dates back to the pre-Nortel days, and may not be supported.
Have you tried telling Optivity that the 5380 is an ASN router?
Go to www.nortelnetworks.com, choose support/documentation from the menu on the left.
Choose Data and INternet products (middle of the screen), then wait. The screen will refresh. Choose Optivity from the lower scroll bar. That should take you to the PDF secion.
