    Really Weird or what?

I have a Dell running XP(Home)with 1Gb of RAM. Just recently the system/computer/XP crashes intermitently. The warning signs are that when I click on a shortcut all I get is the 'Properties' dialog box. This can be "restored" by going into 'Restore', which is "dead", and then closing 'Restore'...

What is this?Where did it come from?

Hi All, This appeared on my desktop from nowhere - 'Microsoft XML 4.0 Parser SDK'. I certainly haven't downloaded it and looking into it using Google it seems to be a development tool? I haven't touched it, and I'm wondering if it's safe to delete it as Microsoft advise that to do so may affect...

    Windows Closing Down?

Hi All, For no apparent reason my PC/Windowm XP(Home) has started suddenly closing down, and all I have is a blank screen. I had been doing "housekeeping" over the weekend and had run SpyBot and RegCure and let them both fix/remove various errors, after backing up. I have now restored these items...

    Malware?

Hi Folks, After doing an "Ewido" scan on my PC it detected the following : - file "Win32.AVKiller" . This was cleaned by "Ewido", with backup. I had just finished updating XP(Home)with all the updates due to having to reinstall WinXP(Home). What is "Win32.AVKiller"? Was it OK to remove it? Thanks

    USB Ports

Hi Kestrel1.Thanks for your help. It's a USB and Ethernet combined modem - Voyager 205 ADSL Route - which is quite common in the UK. I'll certainly be getting a Belkin SurgeMaster to protect the PC from the phone line as I don't want all that aggro again!!. What about the filters for the USB...

Thanks for all your help. I have now fitted PCI/USB card and used USB hubs and all is well again. Yes, we have lift-off again. Whoopee!!! Cheers for now, a grateful member. Oh, by the way the "surge" appears to have come down the phone line and got at the USB's on the motherboard. The modem...

Hi All, Thanks for all the advice. I have now tried everthing suggested and have now visited the local repair shop. They seem to think that there was a surge down the phone line through the modem which went back through the computer to the motherboard, and that the part that controls the USB's...

Can't restart of Close Windows XP(Home)

I recently unintentionally deleted a 'System 32' file and had to resort to reinstalling my PC's HD image from an external HD, using 'Acronis 10', to get my PC to even start up. This was sucessful. However, now I can't 'Restart' or 'Close' Windows and have to resort to switching-off the PC and...
