Thanks for the ideas, I tried them all but none seemed to work. I finally ended up using a shared variable (between the subreport and the main report) and passed back this variable and diaplayed it in the main report (instead of diaplaying the subreport). It took a lot of work, but did export...
K- I cannot put the header in the subreport, as the subreports each show once per row (5 subreports per row).
Madwac- I got the hotfix for this export problem from the BO website (gave me many new DLLs in my C:\WINNT\Crystal folder) but I still only see "Excel Extended" still, not "MS EXCEL"...

I would create a formula that turns one of the fields into uppercase. Put this in the formula:
uppercase(ARCHIVE_TRANS.LOGIN_ID)
Then you will have to manually put the links in the select expert... something like:
"formula" = ARCHIVE_USER.ARCHIVE_USER_ID
