Before you do anything else, I would use the Compaq erase utility to clear all the existing information off the server before trying to run the complete SmartStart setup or install an operating system. I had the same problem you did in setting up a DL580 and a pair of DL360's. Use 7.40 on the...
Has anyone added aftermarket (non Compaq) PCI boards to a Compaq DL580 to get USB ports. If so, is there anything out of the ordinary in doing so or do I just have to put the board in a compatible PCI slot and install proper drivers?
While I can always transfer into to the server via the...
I just set up a Compaq DL580 that was purchased used. Before I could really get anywhere, I had to use the ERASE utility that came with my version of Smart Start and then rerun SmartStart to set everything up correctly. I'm not familiar with the older versions of Smart Start to know if 5.5...

Apparently, the suspected problem with the OS on the client was indeed the culprit. Erased, re-partioned, reformatted, and reinstalled the OS. Everything worked great from that point. Was able to join the domain on the first try.

Ran into another problem today too. Installed McAfee Virus Scan 10 and McAfee Person Firewall 7.0 because I still have my internet connection coming in to my client (for reasons I won't go into here - it will eventually change). Had network connectivity on two client machines before the...
Ah yes! But we do learn our lessons don't we!
I'm always careful not to set that option until I'm done playing (I mean setting up . . . ) a computer.
You're post should be helpful to others though . . .

The DC, DHCP, and DNS all reside on one server with a static address of 192.168.0.1 assigned to the NIC. If you IPCONFIG /all, the DNS points to 192.168.0.1.
We were concerned that since I am using the 180 day evaluation copy of WinServer2003, that there might be a limitation...
Yes, I am currently running the 180 day evaluation copy.
However, as of this afternoon; I was able to get a second machine to join the domain. In fact, it joined on the first try just like it's supposed to. So, that answers the question as to whether there is a limit in the 180 day...
Only one connection of the server NIC is being used at this point. That connection is assigned static address 192.168.0.1. Server scope is set for 192.168.0.10 through 192.168.0.254. Clients are set to obtain an IP address automatically. Have confirmed they are doing so by using IPCONFIG...
Can ping by IP address, by computer name, or by domain name. Two out of three client machines simply will not join the domain.
Error message is:
The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxx.RbbbbbbbHcccccc".
The specified domain does not exist or could not be contacted.

Thanks rvnguy
It was late at night when I posted. Sorry for no OS info.
Clients are all Win2kPro. I knew there were 5 cals included and I have the CALS applied to the server (i.e. the server should accept 5 simultaneous users). I just wasn't sure if the eval copy of WinServer2003 might be...
Am using WinServer2003 Enterprise (180 day evaluation) and am having problems joining more than one client to the domain. One joined easily, the others won't no matter what I seem to do. Does anyone know if there are limitations in the evaluation version that would prevent more than one client...

If I can join with one of the three machines, it would seem like the SRV records must be OK. The DNS, CHMP, DC, etc. are all on the same machine. My DNS on the clients is pointing to 192.168.0.1 on all of them(the IP of the DHCP server and I thought, the IP of the DNS server. I may be...
Recently installed legacy server (Copmpaq DL580) and Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition acting as DC, DHCP server, DNS server, and WINS server. Server is configured with 5 CALs server authorized per server. AD, DHCP, and DNS all seem to be up and running. Clients are three workstations...
