However if you wanted to make a clean network for bringing up new machines that are not patched yet. I would take the extra router and plug it in to the same lan segment as the SBS and the DSL line. Then if a virus were running around in your SBS network, it would not affect the new machine...
Or you can not worry about what connectors are on the switches in question and just buy the appropriately configured patch cords... Form factor of the GBIC's / Imbedded fiber ports doesn't matter, buy the best switch for your needs.

I have a 6509 with 2 MSFC2's and I use:
mls rp vtp-domain LAW
mls rp ip
on all my Vlans I need to route multicast packets on. Keep in mind if your sending Multicast to 2 different vlans it's going to be much slower because each packet must be routed...

BTW, 131070 Addresses is a little much, you might want to consider breaking it to a more manageable size, like
255 Addresses or /24
or 510 for /23
Unless you really need that many addresses... usually when you use one that big, it's meant more for breaking into smaller pieces...

the reason is because a 10.0.0.0/15 subnet is
Subnet Mask Subnet Size
10.0.0.0 255.254.0.0 131070
Host Range Broadcast
10.0.0.1 to 10.1.255.254 10.1.255.255
the next available subnet block would be 10.2.x.x
The nest utility out there for figuring subnets I...
Basically need to use the command
IP ADDRESS xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx mmm.mmm.mmm.mmm secondary
you can add as many secondary ip's as necessary...
You will need to set this on your VLAN interfaces for the router to be able to route packets from other subnets assigned. If your doing this because you...
vipergg, what kind of problems have you had with the 4000's? I have 13 of them and other then 1 bad 48 port copper 1000x module haven't had any problems... there all connected via 1000 fiber gbics to my main 6509...

technome, are yours the rack or upright models? mine are the upright and are several years old...
I inherited them when I started here and didn't discover there was a problem till the power went out one day...

hmm, thats interesting, that means it's not the system having a blue screen that is causing the reboot... I would definately look into the possibility of power related issues...
Maybe bring an alarm clock to work that doesn't have any kind of battery backup, maybe it's some kind of power...
16m ram will give it better performance, and 16m flash will give the router more space for image files for instance if you wanted to play with the Firewall IOS versions, I believe you might need more then 8m...

I would imagine overloading would be easier for the router processor wise, any traffic mark as xxx.xxx.xxx.34 IP, rather then having to look up in the NAT table everytime...
however having never played with this, I'm open to sugestions... I have the IP's to not overload, but I did want to...
I too believe in trying to keep my routers running more effeciently, thats one reason with Dual sups & routers in my main switch I run my routers in active/active mode... I can't stand the thought of having the second router sitting there asking 'Are you stilll alive, do I need to take over?'...
One other suggextion would to Right Click on My Computer, select Properties, Select the Advanced Tab and click on Startup & Recovery, uncheck 'Automatically restart'
However when the server crashes it will not restart, but when you come in in the morning, you will be able to see the error...
