XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

It did turn out to be the MTU size. We set it to 1372 and it finally worked without a hitch. Thanks for everyone's help! Systems Technician, A+, N+, MCP

XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

I've tried putting in the dns servers to see if it will see the domain properly but it doesn't help either. It is pulling an IP address properly with dhcp as well so I don't think that's it either. *SIGH!!* Systems Technician, A+, N+, MCP

XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

You're not kidding, quite a puzzle! I don't think it's an AD problem as all other PC's at the site work just fine, and if we take this PC to another location it has no problems seeing the network in any respect. If we take it back to this site, however, it can't see any computers on the...

XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

@Shad007: There is no missing software as it was built from the same image as is the standard for the location. We do have a sonicwall, however, after spending 1.5hrs on the phone with the vendor for it, it was determined that it's not our issue. We have also tried plugging it into another...

Script to set username appearing after CTRL+ALT+DELETE

    Sweet that works, thanks!

XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

Also, if we un-join the computer from the domain and put it back into the workgroup, we can't re-join it back onto the domain unless we take it back out of the office and plug it in to another location on the network. Also, the computer name didn't exist in AD before, so there is no former...

Script to set username appearing after CTRL+ALT+DELETE

    Forgive me, I haven't worked with scripts so I'm a little slow in that regard...where to I put the: Set WshShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell") str2Write = InputBox("please enter user name") WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DefaultUserName"...

Script to set username appearing after CTRL+ALT+DELETE

The previous script I used had a box that would pop up so that you could enter the logon name you wanted to show up at the next logon...what do I need to change to allow the script to do that?

XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

We have a sonic firewall, but as far as I know this is only used to block certain websites. Also, we have Windows firewall disabled on all our machines. We have it through GPO as well as disabling it manually on the machines to ensure there is no GPO failure.

Script to set username appearing after CTRL+ALT+DELETE

I am trying to create a script that you can run when you've logged on as an administrator, in which you can input a name to show up at the next logon. For example, say that the user bsmith was last to log on before I came in and logged in under the domain admin account. I am afraid bsmith may...

XP Machine cannot join domain but can ping domain controller

We have an xp machine that we brought into an office at a remote location (which is connected via a T1 connection through our phone system and set up as a vpn) after the previous one's hdd failed. When trying to join the domain it indicates that a domain controller is not able to be contacted...

Remote printer wizard install no ports listed

I checked and tried all the suggestions on the links but none helped. It could be because these are talking about tcp/ip ports, however, I'm not trying to add a port printer but a file printer.

Remote printer wizard install no ports listed

@Vacunita: Can you repost that link? Half is a 404 error and the other has nothing to do with printers. Thanks :)

Remote printer wizard install no ports listed

I am completing the action as a domain admin. As far as the "create a port" option, it is completely grayed out and not available.

Remote printer wizard install no ports listed

No, we have all the firewalls all manually disabled so that's not a factor.

Remote printer wizard install no ports listed

I am trying to run the printer wizard remotely to install a "print to file" printer. I run the following command to bring up the printer wizard for the remote machine: RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL, PrintUIEntry /il /c\\computername The printer wizard opens and the next screen brings me to the "select...

"cannot create a backup-to-disk folder using the specified path..."

I'm getting the following error message in Veritas 9.1: "cannot create a backup-to-disk folder using the specified path because another backup-to-disk is already using that path." I know that you can just change the path/name and make the backups go to a new folder so that there isn't a...
